Window Fitting is a tough job, and getting it wrong is a complete nightmare. You want to be able to fit the windows quickly and efficiently in your project and have peace of mind that they are watertight, secure and look good. In this blog, we’ve selected 9 products that we think will help you deliver the perfect window installation, every time.
1 – Gasket Shears / Trim Snips
These are designed easily cut through trims and window beads and have a flat base plate with mitre angle markings for accurate mitring of trims. The blade and base are both replaceable and the handle is made with a soft-grip rubber. Our trim snips come with safety locks for protection on-site.
2 – Thor Hammer
The Thor hammer has a chrome-plated zinc head with two screw-in nylon faces which can be replaced when worn down. It’s used as a non-damaging multi-purpose striking tool in most assembly applications including engineering, furniture, shop-fitting, partitioning, double glazing and injection moulding operations. You can purchase the nylon screw-in faces in a few different levels of firmness to suit your window installation requirements.
3 – Plastic glazing shovel
Our glazing shovel, or paddle, can be used to assist in packing out glass units and adjusting window frames. Its thin edge allows it to reach areas that are inaccessible for other tools, or hands. We recommend you use the glazing shovel for toe and heeling doors and windows to prevent dropping, lifting and positioning glazed units and scraping off excess silicone.
4 – Footprint Hacking Knife
The Footprint hacking knife is designed to aid in the removal of putty from window frames – making the tidying-up process a breeze.
- Manufactured from a single piece of high Carbon Alloy Steel
- Drop Hammer forged end to end for maximum strength and longevity.
- Hardened and tempered blade for a long-lasting edge
- The spine of the blade is strikable with a hammer
- Simple handle made from two leather scaled held to the blades handle with strong metal rivets.

The Winbag is a hand-operated air cushion that has been designed to assist window fitters in the installation or adjustment of windows and doors – and many other household items, actually!
The Winbag is a must-have, allowing one person to complete the installation job quickly and easily, even on larger projects.
Features:
- Can be used in joints 2 – 50mm
- 135Kg load capacity per bag
– Won’t scratch or damage the project
– Easy to inflate and deflate
6 – Window Snapper Fixing Device Box 100 pcs
The Window Snapper is a fixing device that enables you to install a fully glazed window in 5 minutes, literally!
Key features:
- Fits between frame and masonry
- No drilling or plastering required
- No de-glazing on site
What is a ‘Snapper’?
A stainless spring-steel fixing with angled serrated tongues, which is fixed to the frame itself during manufacture
It can be used with UPVC, timber, or aluminium frames. Drilling through the frame into the masonry is not necessary, the window is installed fully glazed
The Snapper will bite into all building materials with a firm grip – yes! It’s a double spring so it will allow for expansion and contraction without lessening the grip on its surroundings.
The serrated tongues on the snapper allow the frame to be pushed into place, but act as an anchor once it’s secured – a bit like a cable tie, but stronger obviously!
7 – Cox Skeleton Gun 400ml
Our genuine Cox sealant skeleton gun suits up to 400ml silicone cartridges – its sturdy and its cheap, keep one in your tool box for when you get to the window-sealing stage.
8 – 28mm Broadfix Mixed Packers
We recommend you grab some of our bags of 28mm Mixed Glazing Packers (120 in a bag). The bag contains an assortment of 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm and 6mm glazing packers. As you already know, packers are an important part to installing windows professionally and carry and spread the load of the glazed unit and provide drainage and ventilation.
9 – Expanding Foam Tape 33 x 25mm
An impregnated self-adhesive foam tape, which when compressed to 20% of its expanded thickness, provides a weather seal. When placed in position, the strip expands to fill the gap; creating the perfect seal. This tape expands to 33mm thick from approximately 6mm thick.
