A big congratulations to Pinnacle Works for completing the renovation of this stunning heritage property!

In just nine months David and his team at Pinnacle Works completely transformed this property. Earlier this year, they began work on this 180-year-old former farm outbuilding—a historical barn with just 122 sq/m of single-storey space. Located in a conservation area, this project required not only craftsmanship but also attention to detail.

Before and after of home renovation.

Expanding a Heritage Site With Modern Building Products.

They set out to complete a front extension which added an additional 30sq/m to the property, including a new master bedroom, ensuite, and master bathroom.  Beyond the extension, Pinnacle Works also carried out a full renovation of the roof of this property, including new fascia’s, soffits, and guttering. They also updated the electrical wiring and installed new plumbing throughout so that a combi-boiler could be installed.

As this is a heritage property, the team took the time to reconstruct the front elevation using traditional building techniques and locally sourced flint. The result is a charming property that is in keeping with its surroundings despite the extensive work completed.

Adding Light, Style, and Functionality.

To modernise the space without compromising on its historical charm, Pinnacle Works prepared existing window and door spaces for double-glazed units. The new set of windows and doors created a sleek and sophisticated exterior yet are still in keeping with the flintwork. The team also installed seven new rooflights, bringing loads of natural light into this beautiful property.

Creating an Open, Elegant Living Space With Bifolds.

The new wing allowed for a thoughtful reconfiguration of the property’s layout. The team created a brand new open-plan kitchen/diner with an adjacent utility room. The new kitchen is simply stunning, featuring vaulted ceilings and an oak truss. The kitchen bifolds allow light to flood the room, making it a contemporary yet still welcoming space.

Bringing it All Together.

To complete the transformation, the team meticulously plastered, painted, installed new flooring, architraves, and skirting, and even improved the lounge fireplace. The final result is a warm, modern home that combines historical charm with contemporary comfort—a space the homeowners will cherish for years to come.

Congratulations to the whole Pinnacle Works team – this is a fantastic renovation!

When it comes to large-scale bathroom renovations, the finishing touches can make all the difference. One fantastic option for decorating a bathroom is internal cladding. This sleek, stylish, and practical option has a number of benefits, and is often a better choice that tiles. Let’s explore five key benefits of choosing internal cladding for your next bathroom renovation.

Supplying bathroom cladding.

We’re excited to offer Zest’s internal cladding, including their popular shower panel range. Zest cladding combines top-notch functionality with a wide variety of stylish design options, all while being lightweight and easy to install. Plus, we can deliver Zest bathroom cladding straight to your site or directly to your customer’s home, saving you both time and fuel!

1) Excellent Design Options

While we all know what to expect from a tile, bathroom cladding offers an impressive variety of design choices. These PVC panels can mimic the look of natural materials such as marble, stone, concrete, and wood. Whether your customer is looking for a sleek and modern look, or something more rustic, we can help you find the perfect cladding for their room.

2) Easy Installation

One of the standout features of bathroom cladding is its ease of installation. Unlike tiles, cladding panels can be installed directly over unprepared walls, plaster, or even existing tiles—saving time and reducing labour costs. The panels use a tongue-and-groove system, which allows them to lock into place securely and effortlessly. Additionally, you only need a few simple tools and adhesive to apply them. For areas prone to moisture, such as shower unit or near bathtubs, a quick application of silicone around the edges adds extra protection. This installation will only take you a few hours, rather than the days it takes to complete a tiling job.

3) Low Maintenance Finish

Once installed, your customer will enjoy all of the low maintenance benefits of bathroom cladding. Unlike tiles which require regular grout cleaning to prevent damp, cladding has no grout lines. This design makes the cladding easy to clean. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth and soapy water will keep these panels looking fresh. Additionally, hygienic cladding is resistant to mould, bacteria and staining, so not only does it look great, but they are also a highly functional addition to the bathroom.

Top tip: it is not advised to use neat bleach products on internal cladding. Non-bleach household cleaners are sufficient to keep these panels looking their best.

4) Budget-Friendly Option

For contractors working within tight budgets, cladding offers significant cost savings compared to tiles. It’s not just the material that’s more affordable; the simplified installation process means lower labour costs as well. These savings can be passed on to your customers, helping you to stay competitive while still delivering a high-quality result. Whether you’re working on a residential bathroom or a commercial project, cladding offers excellent value without compromising on style or durability.

5) Ideal for Larger Projects

When working on large-scale projects—such as communal bathrooms in gyms, hospitals, or changing rooms—cladding truly shines. Its durability, hygienic properties, and ease of installation make it a practical choice for high-traffic areas that need to stay looking great with minimal upkeep. Plus, by choosing large cladding panels, you can cover large expanses of wall quickly, streamlining the installation process. Wet room cladding can help you meet your deadline with ease.

While your guttering system quietly works in the background most of the time, it’s crucial to inspect and maintain it—especially as colder months approach. Neglecting gutter upkeep can lead to serious damage to your home. Some of the common problems caused by faulty or broken gutters include:

And even mosquitoes in the stagnant water!

What to Look for When Inspecting Gutters

During an inspection, it’s important to examine the entire guttering system for signs of wear or damage. Some key warning signs to look for are:

All of these can point to poor drainage, potentially causing water to pool and lead to long-term damage like erosion or leaks inside your home.

Top Gutter Maintenance Tips

To keep your guttering in top condition, follow these simple maintenance tips:

  1. Regularly Clean Your Gutters.
Clear out gutters frequently, especially after storms or if your home is near trees that could drop debris into the system. Pick up a gutter cleaning brush at your local Edge trade counter today.
  2. Inspect While It’s Raining.
Check your gutters during heavy rain to spot leaks, sagging, or overflowing areas that may not be visible otherwise.
  3. Consider Gutter Guards
If your gutters are often filling up with debris installing gutter guards could help to reduce blockages. However, ensure they are properly installed, as poorly fitted guards can create their own drainage problems.
  4. Test Water Drainage
Make sure the gutters are effectively channelling water away from your home’s foundations.

Fun Fact: The Most Common Item Found in Gutters? Toys!

It’s not just leaves and twigs that clog gutters—small balls and toys often find their way into the system, creating unexpected blockages.

Four examples of guttering.

What to do if your gutters are damaged and need replacing.

If your gutters are beyond repair, the best thing to do is replace either the faulty section, or the whole system. We recommend getting in touch with a local professional to help you install the new gutters. There is plenty of choice available when it comes to choosing new guttering for your home.

PVC Guttering

Perhaps the most recognisable, PVC guttering is a highly popular choice of guttering. It is affordable, low maintenance and available in a choice of colours such as white, black, grey, or brown. PVC guttering is also available in a variety of styles, such as half round, deepflow, ogee, and square. Here at Edge we keep high stock levels of both domestic and industrial PVC guttering.

Steel Guttering

If you’re looking for highly durable guttering, steel is a great option. Steel guttering can hold more water than PVC guttering, without sagging, because it’s a robust alloy material. Steel guttering can also improve the look of your home, with it’s attractive shiny finish.  At Edge, we supply galvanised steel, black and anthracite steel guttering.

Cast Iron Guttering

Cast Iron is a long lasting, and weather-resistant option for guttering. However, these systems are also heavier than other guttering options, and not suitable for all rooflines. Here at Edge, we offer CASTstyle PVC guttering, providing the look and feel of cast iron guttering, but with the lightweight, low maintenance benefits of PVC. This is a great option for those looking for the heritage aesthetic of cast-iron, but need a lighter and more cost-effective option.

Aluminium Guttering

Aluminium guttering provides a contemporary look, ideal for modern buildings. It has a high water capacity, is lightweight and is expected to last over 60 years. We can supply high precision extruded aluminium drainage systems to specification. These systems offer a ‘bolt-less’s joining system, with no visible welds for sharp, clean lines.

Final Thoughts

Guttering maintenance is an essential part of ensuring your home is well protected this winter. Conducting simple visual tests and regular cleaning can extend the life of your current gutters. However, if you need a new system, or are considering an upgrade, we are here to help you find the right one for your home.

With so many different silicones on the market, it can be difficult to know which one you actually need. Fancy branding can lead you to think that every tube is made the same, but there are some crucial differences that are good to know. In this blog, we will be offering a helpful guide to the different grades of sealants available so you can pick the right tube for your project.

Why choose silicone?

Silicones are used to create a watertight, or airtight, seal between two surfaces. This is not the same as an adhesive, which creates a much stronger, immovable bond between two surfaces. The silicone is designed to prevent any debris from falling between the surfaces by sealing any gaps and offers a weaker connection than regular adhesives.

When first applied, the silicone will have a liquid, gel-like consistency. This makes it easy to apply across tiles or window boards, and then to smooth the joint with a sealant finishing tool. Once the sealant begins to cure it dries to robust, rubber-like consistency.

Silicone is popular because it is often easy to use and apply and offers a durable yet flexible final cure. The curing process is fuss-free and the new joint is long-lasting.

High Modulus Silicone

If you are looking for a fast cure, a high modulus silicone may be the option for you. Most high modulus silicones have an acetoxy formula, meaning they release acetic acid while curing. This allows the cure to be faster but does emit a slightly vinegary smell during the curing progress. Acid cure silicones are great for non-porous surfaces such as glazed tiles and glass.

Top tip: Silicone curing times will vary depending on the composition of the product, and the brand. Temperature and humidity also have a significant impact on silicone curing times.

Low Modulus Silicone

The acidic formula of a high modulus silicone is not suitable for PVC surfaces, and so a low modulus silicone would be the best choice. Low modulus silicone often have a neutral cure, meaning that they do not have an acidic base. As a result, these silicones have a slightly slower curing time but are often low odour products. The slower cure time also means that the cured silicone creates a more flexible and elastic seal than a high modulus cure.

Top tip: When completing works in bathrooms or high moisture rooms, sanitary silicones are the best choice. These wet application silicones are more resistant to mould and mildrew growth than regular sealants.

Edge Silicone

Finding the right silicone for your project.

Whether you know exactly which product you need or could do with some advice, the best place to go is a building supplies trade counter. Here at Edge, we have trade counters in Chichester, Horsham, and Croydon, and our helpful branch staff are ready to help you find the right sealant for your job.

If you are looking for a reliable, low modulus silicone for PVC applications, we maintain high stock of silicone. Available in both white and clear, this smooth silicone has a neutral cure and is perfect for perimeter sealing in glazing applications.

Although white and clear silicones remain the most popular choice, there is a great array of colour options available. For example, the Soudal Silirub Colour collection features a range of colours such as Basalt Grey, Grey Aluminium, Brown and Silver Grey to match the surfaces being joined together.

Looking for silicone with adhesive properties? Hybrid products such as the Soudal FixAll range offers the strong connection of an adhesive product with the watertight properties of a sealant.

As the weather gets colder and thoughts turn to Christmas (dare I say it?), autumn is the perfect time to tackle those final home projects of the year. Take advantage of this season to transform your space into a warm and cosy retreat. Not only will it make your home look fantastic, but it may also save you some money in the long run.

Trends to Watch for in Autumn 2024:

Renovate and Repair

Autumn is ideal time to give your home the TLC it deserves before winter arrives. It’s a great time to tackle those maintenance tasks you may have been putting off—like cleaning out gutters, removing moss from the roof, and repairing fences. By taking care of these now, you can prevent any unpleasant surprises during the colder months.

Noticed a draft in your home last winter? Or perhaps you’ve been dealing with a broken window latch? Our Bespoke team is here to help you replace faulty windows and doors before the chill sets in. Upgrading to energy-efficient frames can help keep your home warmer while also lowering heating costs. Want to learn more? ‘Dark Academia’ and Colour Drenching

Imagine candlelit rooms, a good book by the fire, and deep, moody colours. This season’s ‘Dark Academia’ aesthetic is all about creating a cosy room with rich, dark hues. ‘Dark academia’ goes hand-in-hand with the continually popular trend of colour drenching, where you commit to one bold colour throughout a room. Think deep greens or a burgundy (Homes & Gardens’ top pick!), which perfectly capture the feeling of autumn.

Did you know that we offer a trim spraying service? This means we can supply you with windows trims in over 150 RAL colours! Bring a colour swatch of the perfect dark grey or blue and we will make sure your windows fit your room perfectly.

If you’re hesitant to go all in, start small—try changing a lampshade or dyeing cushion covers to bring this look into your space without a committing to paint or wallpaper.

70s Revival and Earthy Tones

Earthy tones remain a staple for home projects this season, aligning with the ongoing 70s revival in both fashion and décor. Warm, muted colours are taking center stage in living rooms and kitchens, complemented by a return to darker wood finishes like mahogany and walnut.

Looking to capture this aesthetic outside? We supply window trims in a range of beautiful, foiled finishes, such as Rosewood and Mahogany.  If you’re thinking about upgrading your roofline, consider matching or contrasting your windows with fascias and soffits in darker tones like Anthracite or Matt Black. Renovating your roofline improves your home’s thermal insulation, ensuring that birds and other critters are not nesting in your loft, and protecting your home from the elements.

‘Quiet Luxury’ and Chrome Accents

The ‘Quiet Luxury’ trend is about understated elegance, featuring high-quality, minimalist pieces that reflect sophistication without the need for flashy branding. This design style, which started on social media and in the world of fashion, is making its way into homes this autumn, offering a timeless and aspirational look.

Aluminium bi-fold doors capture this trend beautifully. With sleek designs and excellent thermal efficiency, they keep your home warm while offering a clear view of the outdoors. Matt Black and Anthracite Grey slimline frames add a contemporary feel without overwhelming the space. To complete the look, chrome hardware provides a striking contrast against the darker colour palettes of ‘Dark Academia’ and 70s-inspired décor. Our Bespoke team can help you design the perfect bi-fold unit for your home, to any specification, including chrome handles for that extra touch of luxury.

Our showroom in Chichester has stunning examples of bi-folds with a range of different finishes and hardware. Get in touch with our Bespoke team at [email protected] or by calling 0345 021 3333 to book a visit.
