When embarking on a large-scale home renovation, such as a kitchen re-model, or a brand-new extension, you’re always looking to bring the wow-factor. Rooflights are a fantastic way to bring a luxurious feel to a room. What’s more, there are some great benefits to increasing the light in a home. Let’s take a closer look at why rooflights might be the key to levelling-up your next project.
5 Benefits of Rooflights
Achieve a Sunny Mood
It is well known that humans shouldn’t spend all day inside. However, with most people inside for work, then commuting, then dinner/relaxing with the family, a day can go by with limited sun-exposure. Rooms that lack natural light can over time lead us to experience impaired vision, a depressed mood and generally feel quite irritable. So let that light in with a stunning rooflight and boost the mood of the household.
Improved Productivity When Working from Home
When working from home, it is crucial to soak up as much sunlight as possible. In sunny environments our mood is elevated, improving our productivity and reducing overall stress levels. Rooflights are a great way to increase the light in the room, capturing angles that doors and windows often can’t.
Bring Modern Design to a Room
Nothing brings a touch of luxury to a room quite like a rooflight. This is especially true when paired with a brand-new extension or kitchen renovation. Don’t let your hard work sit in the shadows – a new rooflight will make sure everyone can appreciate your skilled craftsmanship. Plus, it can even help to boost the overall value of a property.
Turn Artificial Lights Off
When a room is being lit naturally with streams of sunlight you simply don’t need to keep those overhead lights on. Save money on lighting a busy family space by increasing the amount of natural light flooding the room.
Save Money in the Winter
High quality, thermally insulated rooflights can also allow for passive heating of a room during the winter. This is especially useful when the rooflight is in a busy area of the home, such as the kitchen or dining room. Save money on heating bills through increased sunlight with the confidence of knowing that warmth will not be leaking out of rooflight this winter.
Finding the Perfect Rooflight with Edge

EDGEsky Flat Glass Rooflight
Here at Edge, we are pleased to offer a range of stock and measure-to-measure flat glass rooflights to help keep your projects moving, as well as bespoke units when you need them. Flat glass rooflights are a streamlined way to increase natural light in a room, while offering an unobscured view to the outside.
Our flat glass rooflights feature edge-to-edge glazing as standard. This allows water to simply glide off the rooflight. What’s more, there are no exposed mastic joints which, on other brand’s systems, can deteriorate over time. This provides a high-quality finish that not only looks better but is also functional and designed to last.
Homeowners have the option to either match the internal and external frame or choose two colours to create a contrasting look. As standard, we hold stock of flat glass rooflights in a variety of sizes with an anthracite grey external frame and a white internal frame. However, we can supply rooflights in any RAL colour by powder coating the aluminium frame. The build-in plasterboard pocket allows for a superior internal finish, so your clients can simply enjoy the excellent installation of the rooflight.
With an overall U-Value of 1.3 w/m²k, this flat glass rooflight is a thermally efficient choice. Plus, we supply shatter-proof laminated glass as standard, offering homeowners peace of mind.
EDGEsky Roof Lantern
If your client is looking for something a bit more dynamic, they will love the look of an aluminium roof lantern. EDGEsky offers one of the largest glass spans on the market, with minimal sightlines. Whether your customer chooses a contemporary or traditional rafter system, the glass is still being maximised for that luxurious touch.
Secure and strong, the aluminium frame is both aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. What’s more, throughout the unit are market-leading seals and gaskets providing excellent weather protection, even in extreme conditions such as long the coast.
As standard, our roof lanterns include high performance, 24mm double glazing. Customers then have a choice of glass tints and other features, including self-cleaning glass. All of our glazing options have U-Values of between 1.0-1.2 w/m²k for exemplary thermal insulation and efficiency. Our team are on hand to help you and your clients pick the right glazing for the project.
As with the flat glass rooflights, customers have a choice of either matching or contrasting internal and external frame colours. Our roof lanterns are available in Matt Black, Anthracite Grey, and Gloss White as standard. We can also have bespoke units produced in any RAL colour, allowing your clients complete creative freedom.
