Our December installation of the month goes to Metz Brothers for their fantastic extension and renovation of Itchenor Memorial Hall. This part lottery funded project is set in an idyllic West Sussex coastal location just minutes from the sea and represents a central hub within this lovely community.
Planning permission was granted for development back in January 2019 and it reached completion in November 2021, with construction taking place over 24 weeks.
The renovation involved an extension and full refurbishment, which was needed due to the poor thermal performance of the building. The development included a single storey flat roof side extension, re-tiling of the existing roof with integrated solar PV panels, alterations to the fenestration including replacement windows and doors, and associated landscaping, including an additional car park to the north west to accommodate a further 36 parking spaces including three disabled parking bays. Metz Brothers also installed air source heat pumps and underfloor heating to improve the overall energy efficiency of the premises.
For this project we supplied signal black upvc fascias, soffits and guttering, signal black Cembrit fibre cement cladding, Smarts Alitherm 300 aluminium windows and Alitherm Plus doors in anthracite grey (7016). These products compliment the property perfectly, giving it a modern and fresh feel, whilst keeping it sympathetic to its natural surroundings.
Cembrit fibre cement cladding gives the building a maintenance free, mould resistant external surface, with all the benefits of a stylish wooden façade, with none of the hassle.
The aluminium doors and windows utilise Smart’s innovative polyamide thermal break technology, which creates a barrier between the cold air outside and the warm air inside. This technology significantly reduces thermal transmittance and enhances the overall U Value of a product and is designed to meet the exacting requirements of Document L 2010.
The architects, Fifty Point Eight, wrote: ”This project has a very special place in our team’s heart. It had been closed for some months before our renovation began when things were so uncertain last year. It reopens in more certain times and we can’t wait to hear how the village enjoys their new warmer and lighter space”.
Well done to Metz Brothers for such a fantastic development. The local community will benefit hugely from their rejuvenated village hall and it’s great to see our products being installed into such an important building. We look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.
