Our range of cast iron style guttering at Edge Building Supplies
If you live in a period property and need to replace your gutters, it’s important the replacement guttering is linked to the heritage appearance. This often means replacing cast iron guttering which was very popular in the 19th century.
At Edge, we supply the Cascade range, a uPVC guttering with a cast iron effect designed specifically to look like the authentic cast iron style. This range is designed to be used to replace traditional cast iron guttering with a modern alternative, while retaining the beautiful heritage style. Made from high-quality uPVC, you can expect modern standards of performance in addition to the original period look.
The range is faithful to the genuine cast iron product in dimensions, details and traditional styles and we stock both guttering and downpipe profiles.
The origins of cast iron guttering systems
Cast iron gutters have been in existence since the 18th century and gradually replaced lead guttering, becoming the most common gutter material by the 19th century. Cast iron is an incredibly strong, non-porous material which could, and still can today, be installed directly to fascia boards. Many heritage properties still use cast iron guttering, due to its authentic, traditional appearance.
Why you should consider cast iron effect gutters over genuine cast iron.
- Cast iron gutters are more expensive than uPVC rainwater systems so you can save yourself considerable expense by going for uPVC.
- In time, genuine cast iron guttering will rust, which means – to keep it looking it’s best, it will require frequent redecorating. uPVC, however, will not rust and it can be easily cleaned – so uPVC gutters will save you time performing any maintenance.
- Although they look authentic, cast iron gutters are very heavy, whereas uPVC is a lightweight alternative, making them easier to install or store before installation.
- Cast iron style guttering is made from 84% of recycled material, so they are a great choice for property owners who are environment-aware.

Cast iron effect uPVC guttering & downpipes
A unique patented manufacturing process of the range blends with genuine cast iron architectural detailing on pipe work, fixings and hoppers to give the full appearance of cast iron with all the benefits of modern plastic materials. In addition to Classic Black, the range is available in a choice of heritage-style colours including Chartwell Green, Anthracite Grey, Oxford Blue, Olive Green, Graphite Grey, Sandstone and Porcelain White.
Our uPVC cast iron effect guttering system replicates genuine cast iron very well. The range is available in either a half-round, deep-flow, industrial or Ogee gutter style, which are the most popular styles of cast iron guttering. Most importantly, though, uPVC cast iron guttering has the textured appearance of real cast iron.
As important as the appearance is, there are a few more considerations to look for when buying cast iron style guttering.
- Is the original uPVC product good quality? Does it have the BSI Kitemark? Is it guaranteed? Our manufacturers have developed and tested the cast iron style guttering products thoroughly.
- You’ll also need to know the dimensions of the replacement guttering if you are fitting alongside another system.
Hoppers
We also supply Cascade’s range of authentic hoppers, to give your cast-style guttering the traditional finishing touch. These come in a range of sizes and are manufactured and tested as thoroughly as the rest of the range. There is a wide range of colours available and our hoppers can be compatible with both round and square guttering systems.
