This month we are awarding Installation of the Month to Imperial Homes for their beautiful Autumn Gate development in West Sussex. The project consists of two 2 bedroom semi-detached, two 3 bedroom semi-detatched and five 4 bedroom detatched homes all finished to a very high specification.
Situated in the historic parish of Aldingbourne, these semi-rural properties provide the perfect combination of modern living and traditional country style.
Imperial Homes have installed our cream foil fascias and soffits onto all nine of their properties to compliment the architectural design perfectly. Windows in chartwell green work well with this roofline colour, to give these homes an authentic country style.
Imperial Homes was founded in 2013 by Chris Southcott and Joe Dorrington who have used their extensive experience in homebuilding to build a very successful construction business. We are proud to be working with such an innovative company and look forward to working together more in the future. Congratulations Imperial Homes.
If you’d like to enquire about our fascia and soffits, please contact us on 0345 021 3333 or email [email protected]

Over the last two years, the demand for home improvement has been on a long and steady incline. The rise in home renovations and extensions has been attributed to us spending more time inside our houses during the long lockdowns of 2020 and 2021. Wanting to improve the look and layout of our homes has never been so popular, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
With this rise in home improvement, we have seen more demand for external composite cladding to transform a tired or dated frontage to that of a contemporary and smart one. If homeowners have been thinking about renovating the outside of their home, or business owners are considering giving their premises a facelift, whether it’s for aesthetic reasons only, or for protection from the elements (or a combination of both these reasons), the addition of cladding is a good option. It can be a great substitute for old hanging tiles or to replace aging render finishes, and there are a wide variety of cladding styles and materials to either enhance the look of an existing building, or to completely change the appearance.
What is external cladding?
In short, cladding is the external finish of a building, and in particular – panelling or sheets, which are added to the outside. Cladding is non-load bearing, and as such, panels are attached, but not part of the structure. There are a vast range to choose from when it comes to the material and finish, from timber cladding, through to PVC cladding, cedar cladding, brick, stone and aluminium cladding. When choosing the type, homeowners are often led by aesthetics, but the decision around the type of cladding will also be dependent on location, weather, budget, how much on-going maintenance is needed, and who will install it.
What are the benefits to using external cladding?
There are many benefits to using external cladding, and one of these is to improve the insulation of a property. This is particularly pertinent with the steep rise in heating bills during 2022, and with homeowners now looking for ways to retain the heat in their house, cladding can be a solid, long-term investment. Cladding is also a great protector of the building, acting as a prevention against the forces of weather, which is why it is often seen on beach-front houses. It can be extremely effective against the elements of wind, rain, and sea-air.
Although there are so many advantages, it’s important to consider the impact of the external change to a house, in both the look and quality. How will the change to the façade be received by the neighbourhood? Will the house be too much of a contrast from the others? If the home is semi-detached or terraced, what impact will this have on the neighbours’ house?
Investing in high-quality cladding is also essential. As with any product, cheap low-quality alternatives may mean fading or cracking of the material over time. If homeowners are hoping the addition of cladding will be a ‘quick-cheap fix’, it will be well worth doing some research into suppliers and materials to ensure homeowners are fully armed with knowledge when it comes to making their choice.
What should I look for when choosing external cladding?
There are a range of materials to choose from when it comes to external cladding. At Edge Building Products, we supply the Fortex range of innovative cladding which combines an authentic painted timber grained look with the low maintenance benefits of PVC. PVC, also known as vinyl or plastic cladding, can be used as both interior and exterior cladding, and Fortex cladding can be supplied in a range of nine subtle colours giving the homeowner a really wide choice of options to complement their design ideas. Fortex remains a popular choice due it being light and easy to install, and the comprehensive range of cladding trims available, will ensure a neat and professional finish whatever the application. We understand that deciding on the colour of your cladding is important, and so we have provided a [handy visualiser tool] to help our customers imagine how different coloured cladding might look on a house of the same style as theirs.
If it is a fashionable New-England effect that the homeowner is seeking, then James Hardie cladding could be an option. Unlike timber weatherboarding, Hardie plank cladding is made from resilient, maintenance-free fibre cement, giving the homeowner all the benefits of a stylish wood-like appearance, and none of the hassle of painting, staining and restoring. This cladding is also weather resistant, meaning it doesn’t shrink or crack, and it is lightweight and eco-friendly. Hardie cladding is available in grey, black, white, and cream, meaning most of the popular cladding colours are covered.
We also supply two more additional cladding lines under our brand Edgeline. Shiplap Cladding offers a traditional style of cladding, with clean smooth lines and a smarter finish. Open V Cladding is a popular choice, and although at first glance isn’t dissimilar from Shiplap Cladding, it has a symmetrical profile allowing the cladding to be used in either a horizontal or vertical format.
What are the differences between UPVC and fibre cement cladding?
When choosing between Fortex UPVC Cladding and Hardie Fibre Cement Cladding, it’s important to understand the benefits of each. Whilst PVC is light and easy to install, and available in a large range of colours, Hardie Fibre Cement Cladding meanwhile, is more resilient and durable due to the cladding composition (cellulose fibre and cement). The two types of boarding are both known to be low in maintenance, which is an important consideration.
We understand that for homeowners, changing the external appearance of a building is a decision not to be taken lightly. Edge Building Products can help advise homeowners on which might be most suitable type of cladding, depending on their budget, location, current appearance of their house, and of course – desired appearance.
We have trade counters to supply cladding from our Croydon, Horsham and Chichester sites, and we can provide the broadest range of low-maintenance building and glazing products in the market. June Installation of the Month | Newgate Trade
This month we’re awarding Installation of the Month to Peter and Susan Charon from Newgate Trade, for their fantastic installation into their newly renovated seaside property.
Set in the picturesque civil parish of Felpham in West Sussex, this five-bedroom seafront home is the epitome of luxury and style. It includes a spa with spa pool, steam room and sauna, gym area, master bedroom with walk in wardrobe, open-plan kitchen diner, large first floor balcony (with sea views) and outdoor hot tub.
The couple bought the property in August 2020, inspired by years of experience in the construction sector, with the goal of turning it into their dream home.
The couple started work on the 1930s house in October 2020, and construction began two months later in December 2020. Despite the pandemic, the couple persevered with the development and made fantastic progress under somewhat challenging conditions. So much so, that they were able to move into the property only 11 months later, in Sept 2021.
The property’s exterior is in keeping with its location, with grey shiplap covering the top half and white render on the bottom, giving it a coastal, nautical feel. They installed Edge anthracite roofline products to contrast with the lighter grey shiplap. The roofline products included fascias and soffits, hollow soffits and guttering.
In addition to this, they have installed slate grey composite decking to their first-floor balcony floor and external stairs, which overlooks the sea. The wood-polymer composite (WPC) product is perfect for a seafront location like this, due to its hardwearing, low maintenance properties. Peter and Susan have opted for our classic range of decking, with grooves, for a more contemporary look.
Finally, they installed a glass roof light into their first-floor kitchen-diner to bring even more light into this open-plan room. Our Edgesky flat glass rooflight is a stylish and functional glazing solution which floods indoor areas with light to give them a spacious and airy feel. The glazed area runs from edge to edge without any exposed mastic joints. Our rooflights have a thermal efficiency of 1.3 u value and the laminated inner pane offers protection from glass if it shatters.
Peter and Susan have developed a fantastic seafront home, and we are delighted they have chosen to install so many of our products into this beautiful property. Congratulations again to both of you.

A Guide to Roof Lanterns
In recent years, there has been a major rise in the demand for home-improvement. In the past, people generally moved house when they outgrew their current home, but with the high cost of moving, and house prices having risen sharply in recent years, it has become difficult for many people to buy the property they want. As a result, an increasing number of homeowners are now choosing to extend or adapt their existing homes to create extra space. And, because the homeowner isn’t starting from scratch, they often end up with a better-designed and more stylish space than if they moved house.
With the increase in home extensions, there has been a rise in the demand for roof lanterns to provide extra light and to brighten gloomy areas. Roof lanterns are increasingly popular with homeowners because they offer a number of benefits over traditional skylights.
So, what exactly are roof lanterns and why are they so popular?
Roof lanterns, also known as sky lanterns, are a glass structure which are largely installed on flat roofs and are typically seen on single storey extensions. They are often positioned in the centre of the room enabling light to flood in. Perfect for large, open-plan living spaces such as kitchen extensions, not only do they offer the benefit of natural light, but they can also help make a small space feel larger due to the elevation of the ceiling.
When most people think of adding a roof lantern to their home, they envision a complex and expensive project. However, installing a roof lantern is a relatively simple process for a professional contractor. The process of installation on an existing flat roof, usually involves removing a section of the roof, installing the lantern, and then re-sealing the roof around the new window. Finally, the contractor will replace any damaged insulation and install new roofing material to finish the project.
How do Roof Lanterns differ from roof skylights?
When it comes to letting natural light into a home, there are two main options, skylights and roof lanterns. Both skylights and roof lanterns can help to brighten a dark room, but there are some key differences between the two. Skylights are typically installed within the slope of a roof, while roof lanterns are fitted on top of a flat or pitched roof. Skylights may be a more inexpensive option, but roof lanterns tend to be larger and more dramatic, which allows them to let more light in. Skylights can be opened for ventilation however, while most roof lanterns cannot.
It’s important to weigh up the pros and cons of each option before making a decision, and ultimately, the best option for your home will depend on the size and layout of the room, budget, and the homeowner’s specific needs and preferences.
What are the benefits and disadvantages of roof lanterns?
There are so many benefits to installing a roof lantern in your customer’s roof. The most obvious benefit already mentioned, is the increased natural light that it can provide, and, with the steep rise in energy bills in 2022, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day will help to keep energy costs down. A roof lantern is a striking addition to a room, it can add value to the home, as well as making the outside more attractive.
Letting in natural light can, however, create unwanted additional warmth in the summer months. Having our ambi blue glass, or lantern blinds fitted in the lantern can help to control the temperature in the room and reduce any glare from the sun. These blinds are specifically designed for this type of sky or roof light. They are available in a variety of styles and can be operated manually or with a motorised system. Roof lantern blinds are typically custom-made to fit the specific window size and shape, and as such, they are often not a low-cost solution.
Before embarking on the installation of a roof lantern, it is also important for the homeowner to check whether they will need planning permission. This will depend on the period of the house, the size of the lantern and many other factors. If the project does not need planning permission, there are still building regulations that apply to roof lanterns, and a structural engineer will need to be consulted before installing a lantern into an existing flat roof. We would always recommend consulting your local planning authority for advice.

Our range of cast iron style guttering at Edge Building Supplies
If you live in a period property and need to replace your gutters, it’s important the replacement guttering is linked to the heritage appearance. This often means replacing cast iron guttering which was very popular in the 19th century.
At Edge, we supply the Cascade range, a uPVC guttering with a cast iron effect designed specifically to look like the authentic cast iron style. This range is designed to be used to replace traditional cast iron guttering with a modern alternative, while retaining the beautiful heritage style. Made from high-quality uPVC, you can expect modern standards of performance in addition to the original period look.
The range is faithful to the genuine cast iron product in dimensions, details and traditional styles and we stock both guttering and downpipe profiles.
The origins of cast iron guttering systems
Cast iron gutters have been in existence since the 18th century and gradually replaced lead guttering, becoming the most common gutter material by the 19th century. Cast iron is an incredibly strong, non-porous material which could, and still can today, be installed directly to fascia boards. Many heritage properties still use cast iron guttering, due to its authentic, traditional appearance.
Why you should consider cast iron effect gutters over genuine cast iron.
- Cast iron gutters are more expensive than uPVC rainwater systems so you can save yourself considerable expense by going for uPVC.
- In time, genuine cast iron guttering will rust, which means – to keep it looking it’s best, it will require frequent redecorating. uPVC, however, will not rust and it can be easily cleaned – so uPVC gutters will save you time performing any maintenance.
- Although they look authentic, cast iron gutters are very heavy, whereas uPVC is a lightweight alternative, making them easier to install or store before installation.
- Cast iron style guttering is made from 84% of recycled material, so they are a great choice for property owners who are environment-aware.
Benefits
- Affordable alternative
- Fast and easy installation
- UV stabilised
- Durable and corrosion resistant
- Lightweight but robust
- Warranty assured
- Compatible with other rainwater systems
- Extensive choice
- Available in 8 heritage colours themes
- Range of traditional hopper designs
- Complementary push-fit soil system
Cast iron effect uPVC guttering & downpipes
A unique patented manufacturing process of the range blends with genuine cast iron architectural detailing on pipe work, fixings and hoppers to give the full appearance of cast iron with all the benefits of modern plastic materials. In addition to Classic Black, the range is available in a choice of heritage-style colours including Chartwell Green, Anthracite Grey, Oxford Blue, Olive Green, Graphite Grey, Sandstone and Porcelain White.
Our uPVC cast iron effect guttering system replicates genuine cast iron very well. The range is available in either a half-round, deep-flow, industrial or Ogee gutter style, which are the most popular styles of cast iron guttering. Most importantly, though, uPVC cast iron guttering has the textured appearance of real cast iron.
As important as the appearance is, there are a few more considerations to look for when buying cast iron style guttering.
- Is the original uPVC product good quality? Does it have the BSI Kitemark? Is it guaranteed? Our manufacturers have developed and tested the cast iron style guttering products thoroughly.
- You’ll also need to know the dimensions of the replacement guttering if you are fitting alongside another system.
Hoppers
We also supply Cascade’s range of authentic hoppers, to give your cast-style guttering the traditional finishing touch. These come in a range of sizes and are manufactured and tested as thoroughly as the rest of the range. There is a wide range of colours available and our hoppers can be compatible with both round and square guttering systems.

We have seen increased demand in cladding recently, and we really enjoy seeing our customer’s cladding installations, whether they are commercial or domestic. Cladding doesn’t just protect the outside of your home against the elements, it’s also a great way to create interesting, unique, and beautiful facades – making your property stand out. There are a lot of cladding materials out there, so here are some of the materials and styles that we have noticed making a hit right now.
What are the latest style trends for UK cladding?
Cladding materials, designs, and trends
Mixing the cladding’s orientation
The more traditional installation for cladding is horizontal orientation, running along alongside brickwork or stone. We have noticed, however that installing cladding vertically is definitely a new trend – especially in more contemporary properties, to clad a full length of wall. This installation style gives the property a sleek façade and emphasises the height of the building, with full-length linear design. This most suits contemporary properties, whether they are commercial or domestic.
Mixing cladding colours and shades
We have also noticed a shift towards the use of multiple colours or shades of cladding. Whether it’s a complimenting neutral shade, for example, using two shades of grey or beige – or a stark contrast in colours, such as chalk white and turquoise – a typical seaside combination. Using different colours can both soften the appearance of the property, or make it stand out powerfully from other properties.
Dark and Bold
Another apparent trend is the darker colour schemes for domestic properties. Property owners seem to be favouring bolder exteriors and choosing shades such as charcoal, blacks, and inky blues to make their homes stand out.
Fibre cement cladding
Fibre cement cladding, alongside its fire safety and environmental benefits, is becoming more of trend:
Texture – Enhances Exteriors
Fibre cement cladding is installed on properties all over the world, using many different varieties of designs and orientations. The fibre cement boards are versatile and can be made to resemble many natural cladding or surfacing options, such as wood, concrete and metal – adding interest to properties.
Environmentally-friendly Materials
Fibre cement is a very sustainable option that is often made using recycled material. Its growing popularity is in line with the growing level of effort that we put in to living more sustainably and economically. The durability of fibre cement means that it can last for an extremely long time, saving money and time on replacements and other resources. We know that our customers need the right resources to work with as the necessity for more sustainable homes increases – fibre cement is therefore ideal with its environmental benefits.
Having watched the growing trend of fibre cement cladding over the past few years – we expect its popularity rise further and see even more installations in the years ahead. This is largely due to recent laws and guidelines in the UK in relation to fire safety and sustainability. But with the vast array of options that fibre cement presents us with, it is no surprise that it is more than a passing trend.
You can read more about our range of James Hardie Fibre Cement Cladding, or take a look at the James Hardie Cladding Calculator, and Visualiser
Fortex Textured Cladding
Another range that is growing in popularity is Fortex cladding. This innovative, low maintenance range is manufactured using environmentally friendly lead-free formulation which is guaranteed to stand the test of time. With many on-trend colours available in the Fortex range, our customers can personalise their properties confidently, while not having to worry about upkeep and sustainability. The Fortex range has a unique embossed woodgrain effect which improves the overall exterior of properties.
A word on metal cladding
There are four metals most popular for cladding and roofing usage. These are zinc, copper, stainless steel, and aluminium. They can add a contemporary touch to any property – but there are a few things to consider. Metal is a tough material, but not always as hard-wearing as it seems.
Pros of metal cladding
-
- Metal does not absorb moisture, which could lead to mould and mildew issues.
-
- Metal is widely recycled
-
- Low risk of insect and pest damage
-
- Contemporary design options
-
- Metal cladding offers fire protection
-
- Some metals used for cladding are fairly lightweight
Cons of metal cladding
-
- Rust can cause damage to metal and ruin the façade
-
- Metal cladding is usually a more expensive option
-
- Rainfall and hail falling against metal cladding can be noisy
-
- Softer aluminium cladding can be prone to denting and scratching.
Updating a home’s exterior can bring significant returns when homeowners invest in good quality, sustainable cladding choices. Installing cladding onto your property will provide a clean, sleek exterior and increase the value of the property.

A Guide to Roofline Products
There’s no doubt that a well-designed and properly installed roofline can enhance the overall appearance of a property’s exterior. But rooflines are often an afterthought when homeowners are embarking on a build or home improvement project.
‘Roofline’ is the term to describe the essential features that protect a house from the elements, and as the term implies, these elements sit just below the roof. They include fascias, soffits and guttering. The right roofline product can add both aesthetics, and more importantly – functionality.
Most homeowners will have heard of all 3 elements that make up a roofline, but some may not know much about what they are. In this blog, we will take a look at the different types of roofline products available from Edge Building Products and provide some tips that will help you guide your clients in choosing the right roof line products for their home.
What are the options when it comes to roofline products?
Roofline products are essential for protecting the home, and fascias, soffits and guttering all play a vital role in keeping the home watertight. Choosing the right material for the roofline is an important decision, and for many years, timber was the most popular choice. However, timber has a number of drawbacks, it needs regular maintenance, will rot over time, and it doesn’t have the longevity of some other materials. As a result, many homeowners are now choosing to install UPVC roofline products instead. UPVC is a much more durable and long-lasting material, and it is very easy to maintain, making it a wise investment for the long term.
Fascias
Fascias are the horizontal boards that run along the length of the roof and cover the ends of the rafters on a pitched roof. They help to give the roof its finished appearance, and they also play an important role in preventing water and other debris from entering the loft space, as they close the gap between the walls and the roof.
At Edge Building Products, we have a wide range of Fascias available, and we are a leading roofline products supplier. Our range including Square Leg Fascias, flat roof fascias, bullnose fascias and ogee Fascias. Each product comes in a variety of lengths, and we can spray paint our roofline products to any RAL or BS colours. We therefore give the homeowner the option of matching their fascias with the exterior of the house.
At our Horsham, Chichester and Croydon trade counters, we can also supply the required fascia accessories, including corners and joints.
While Fascias are not required for the structural integrity of the roof, they can help to extend its life by providing additional protection against harsh weather, and therefore choosing the right fascia product and accessories for the home will not only support the roof tiles and guttering, but also have the added benefit of increasing the curb appeal of the home.
With such a wide range on offer, we understand that trades people may need some guidance, and we are always happy to speak with you in further detail about the choices and the most suitable option for your client.
Soffits
Simply put, soffits are the horizontal or slanted boards that you see along the underside of a roof’s overhang. From an aesthetic standpoint, soffits can help to give your home a finished look by hiding the rafters and other underside details of the roof. Like Fascias, they also play an important role in protecting the home from water damage and pests. Soffits can either be vented or non-vented and serve several purposes. Vented soffits allow air to flow into the attic, which helps to prevent moisture build-up and mould growth, whereas non-vented soffits are usually made of a water-resistant material and help to keep rainwater from seeping into the attic. Either way, soffits are a necessary part of any well-built home.
At Edge Building Products we have every option covered. We offer both vented and non-vented soffit boards, hollow soffits and flat soffit boards, in a variety of sizes, and purchased as single planks. In addition to standard colours – white, black ash, golden oak and dark grey foil, as with our fascias, we can spray our soffits to any RAL or BS colour.
Guttering
While soffits and fascias both seal different parts of the rafter, guttering is the third important element of a roofline, and the one most homeowners will be familiar with. As most people will know, guttering is used to collect and channel rainwater away from the roof, and can be made from UPVC, aluminium or steel. Guttering may seem like a small detail, but it does play a crucial role in the protection of the home. If water is allowed to stand around the base of a house, it can start to seep in through cracks and gaps, causing damp and rot. In extreme cases, this can even lead to the collapse of walls or the foundation of the house. As such, they need to be regularly maintained and replaced when they become clogged or damaged over time.
Edge Building Product’s roofline range includes guttering and pipes, along with rainwater accessories – gutter guards, gutter brushes and the necessary rafter brackets and screws needed to properly install guttering. We supply both domestic and industrial PVC guttering, in addition to [cast iron PVC guttering] and downpipes, and we have a range of drainage pipes, channel drainage and soakaway crates to ensure everything your client needs can be sourced from one centralised place.
As with soffits and fascias, all our roofing supplies are available from Chichester, Horsham and Croydon trade counters, with particularly high stock levels held at our Chichester warehouse.
Edge Building Products is proud to be a leading roofing supplier of high quality, durable, UPVC and aluminium roofline products to new and existing clients in the trade. Within this article, you can explore the overview of our product range and find out more about the building products we stock and supply.
Roofline products
Fascias & soffits
External finishings demand longevity. The Edgeline™ range of fascias & soffits is widely appreciated by our customers due to its durability, ease of installation and protection against UV rays, meaning it doesn’t allow sunlight to penetrate and alter the colour.
Speaking of colour, with Edge you can get your fascias & soffits sprayed in ANY RAL or BS COLOUR – which is a service that is often hard to get hold of. You’ll find that we also stock a wide range of colours and finishes to suit every project.
We stock square leg fascia, flat roof fascia, bullnose fascia, ogee fascia, flat soffit, hollow soffit and vented soffit boards. To complete your roofline project, we can also supply you with all the corners, joints ancillaries and backing board.
Rainwater & Drainage
Gone are all the discoloured, cracked, and disintegrating PVC gutters of the 70’s; instead, our Edgeflow™ range offers a great choice of style, colour, and finish. Whether you want the high gloss, contemporary finish of our domestic or industrial guttering, or the antique charm of our cast iron style guttering, Edge’s range of guttering offers everything you need for efficient, low maintenance and easily installed roof drainage.
Edge has other popular guttering ranges, such as steel and aluminium guttering which creates a major wow-factor on the externals of projects. We also have big stocks of underground drainage and soil pipe. You can even get genuine cast iron guttering at Edge!
External cladding & decking
Our cladding range includes PVC – in both shiplap and open V designs, Fibre cement and the Fortex cladding system. Each range has both smooth and wood-textured finishes available and a vast array of colours to choose from.
Our Hardie plank fibre cement cladding system has numerous benefits: its fire resistant, eco-friendly, and weather resistant – meaning it doesn’t warp or crack in harsher weather conditions.
The Fortex cladding system is also very popular at edge – durable, light, and easy to install – and it’s guaranteed for 10 years! Fortex is available in weatherboard, 333mm Shiplap and 300 shiplap – and we have all the trims and tools you need for a sleek installation.
Our composite decking looks and feels amazing for far longer than timber decking, with substantially less maintenance needed! It’s also non-slip and splinter-proof, so there are added safety benefits too!
You’ll love the designs and finishes available in our composite decking range: we have the classic, grooved range – available in brown, charcoal, sand, and slate grey. Then we have the signature range – premium capped wood-grain effect. These boards are reversible as they have two different coloured wood-effect finishes either side – offering greater design options.
Windows, doors and roof glazing systems
We’re proud to be stockists of many window and door styles and profiles – including, but not limited to, Linar uPVC windows and doors, Smarts aluminium windows and doors, the residence collection and Origin frames. So, whether you are handling a modern project or needing to compliment and traditional property, we can supply the style you need! Not only that, we also have over 25 years’ experience in the building and window fitting industry – and we can help you measure up your project.
We showcase lots of our windows and doors in our Chichester showroom – come take a look!
We supply windows that are bespoke to your needs and measurements – however when it comes to roof glazing, we have stock! Our flat glass rooflight is a massively popular product for extensions with flat roofs as it introduces an extra opening for natural light to flood into a room. Likewise, our Lantern rooflight brings more light to a building, and is popular for more traditional-style projects, due to the bar detailing and the option to add finials.
Window finishing – trims, cill, window boards and panels
If you are a window fitter, you’ll know that a lot goes in to fitting a window securely and immaculately. Edge can spray window trims to any RAL or BS colour to ensure that your windows and trims match perfectly. We are also stockists of various high quality window trims, which will give your project a quality appeal.
Edge also stocks a vast range of sealants, fixings and flashings that make your installations easier – along with glazing tools and other consumables.

Edgesky – Achieving the ‘Wow’ effect
Edgesky™ rooflights have been immensely popular in the last few years. Many of our clients have remarked on the huge improvements that our rooflights bring to projects, not to mention the ease of installation and low maintenance benefits that these products bring. But how do the Edgesky™ products create that ‘wow’ factor, both practically and aesthetically?
Let us explain…
The Edgesky™ Lantern
Our Lantern Rooflight is a stylishly versatile roof glazing solution which looks at home in both traditional and modern settings. The slim roof bars, only 57mm wide, are a big attraction to builders and developers who are trying to achieve a sleek finish for their clients.
The perfectly proportioned Edgesky™ Lantern has a subtle ogee detail on its bars which, when coupled with the fully concealed fixings, creates a clean and classic appeal. Lantern rooflights just look good, from inside and out.
Practical choice
The attention to detail in the manufacturing process makes our lanterns the best choice by far. From bespoke weather seals to innovative glass locks, these lanterns are equipped with great features to enable a quick and easy installation.
Additional ‘wow’ factors
With Edgesky there is also the option to add finials to your roof lantern. These are especially popular in the more traditional projects; due to the period style they offer. Here is an example from one of our installations.
Another option available is to add more bars to your rooflight, which further aids the development of the traditional orangery style in a project.
The Edgesky™ Flat Glass Rooflight
Our minimalist flat glass rooflight is perfect for the more modern projects, although its simplicity makes it incredibly versatile.
This well-designed product has hidden fixings and minimal sightlines, to allow maximum light into the room – enhancing the interiors within.
Practical choice
The quality materials and manufacturing processes of the Flat Glass Rooflight, allow it to achieve an overall U Value of 1.3 w/m2k due to its laminated and shatter-proof triple glazing which comes as standard.
Like the lantern, the flat rooflight also boasts an incredibly simple installation, with hidden strap fixing, an internal plasterboard pocket for easy boarding and plastering.
Additional ‘wow’ factors
An extra option is to have your flat glass rooflight made with an electric opener, which acts a little like a Velux roof window, bringing fresh air into the room beneath.
Another choice available is to have a multi-pane flat glass rooflight, this widens your view of the sky, and brings in the maximum natural light.
Ambi-blue glass
Edgesky™ rooflights come with ambi-blue glazing as standard. This ambience glass is self-cleaning and has a U value of 1.2W/m2k. It also provides 60% solar heat reflection, ensuring the room stays at a comfortable temperature all year round. We do have other ambience glass options, such as aqua, ultra, sunshade blue, bronze and neutral – these all have their own benefits with regards to sunlight, warmth and colouring and ensure that there is a glazing option to suit every project!
Don’t just take our word for it!
Here is what our clients say:
“…Edge building products came to the rescue as usual with their product and superb professional attitude, and a cutting edge simple modern aluminium roof… …super easy to install and glaze, and the finished product was clean and slim. The whole product as an entirety I can speak highly of…” Window installer, Bognor Regis
“Amazing product – really impressed. Looks incredibly smart – just the product I needed and just the product I will ever get from now on…” Housebuilder, Chichester
“We are extremely pleased with the roof light, a lot of effort must have gone into the minimalistic design and ‘timber look’ finish, which is very pleasing to the eye. Very easy to piece together and fit, altogether a great product!” Developer, Arundel
At Edge, we stock a range of sizes of Lanterns and Flat Glass rooflights due to an increase in demand for them recently. Our clients have found both products highly beneficial to one-story extensions, new build and refurbishment projects as homeowners seek to bring more natural light into their homes. Alternatively, if you require a more bespoke size, just email [email protected] with your requirements or queries and our team will get back to you.
We delighted to award our July Installation of the Month to London and County Construction for their contemporary countryside development in West Sussex.
This 1960s property has been tastefully converted into a two-storey family home in the space of just seven months. The project involved the erection of an additional storey, a single storey extension to the east, and internal reformatting and modernisation. The development also involved a redesign of the outside space into a family friendly and useable garden.
London and County Construction installed our fascias and soffits in white, galvanised stainless-steel guttering, upvc flush sash windows in agate grey and doors in agate grey. These products create a fresh, modern look and work well with the timber cladding, which covers the top half of the property.
Charlie Smee from London and County Construction said the windows surpassed his expectations and he received an excellent service from the Edge team.
Congratulations once again to Charlie and his team, this is a fantastic development, showcasing our range of roofline products, windows, doors and steel guttering. We look forward to seeing more of London and County Construction’s work in the future.

We’re very pleased to award the August Installation of the Month to Chichester Carpentry and Building Ltd for their fantastic heritage, Tudor-style project in the city of Chichester.
The redevelopment project involved creating 5 flats with parking, gardens and associated landscaping – all with a luxury feel and great facilities whilst being suited to the other period style properties on the road. The project has the added bonus of being on a main road leading into the city centre.
Chichester Carpentry have installed our sliding sash windows and bifold doors in white, with Georgian bar detailing in the glass along with composite decking, cast iron style guttering in black with white fascias and soffits. The products all work together to create a period feel to the property but with the low maintenance benefits that they come with. These will allow the project to keep that pristine appearance for years to come.
Congratulations to Martin Tallman, and all of the team at Chichester Carpentry for this outstanding project, showcasing our range of guttering, windows, doors and roofline products. We look forward to seeing more of Chichester Carpentry’s projects in the future.
Skirting boards might seem like one of the less important considerations in a project, but they have a huge impact on the style and size of a space. At Edge, we have a range of skirting board options to suit many styles and bring the finishing touch to the walls of your project.
Of course, we couldn’t forget that our range of skirting boards are water, termite, and shock resistant – and very simple to install!
Ogee skirting
Ogee skirting is mostly suited to heritage properties, as the boards are made to resemble the traditional timber ogee architrave profile from the Victorian era, where they are said to have been first used.
Ogee skirtings work very well as a decorative trim on box sash installations in the more traditional projects, or Victorian-style new-build properties. Ogee architrave is also an excellent feature for decorative gable ends, when fixed on top of the barge board, completing the sophisticated yet classic look.
Ogee colours and finishes
Our standard range of ogee skirting boards are available in Anthracite Grey, Black and White, however we can spray the standard white ogee skirting board in any RAL or BS colour to match your space.
Orac decorative skirting
Another skirting board option we have available is the Orac range. There are a vast array of design options in this range, which can suit anything from art-deco to farmhouse-style properties.
Made from the impact resistant and flexible Duropolymer® or Durofoam®, Orac’s range includes skirting boards that are designed to cover old, rotten skirtings that aren’t easy to remove. They are also fantastic for the more detailed, maximalist designs that will inject your project with a bold statement.
Orac colours and finishes
Orac skirting boards are entirely paintable, which means you can blend them into the room by painting them the same colour as the existing wall colour. If you are wanting to make you skirting board designs a bit more noticeable however, you could paint them a contrasting but complimenting colour to make them stand out from the wall.
What are the trends in skirting?
The maximalist approach seems to be reappearing, with bold designs and colour schemes, contrasting walls with the skirting boards. The use of integrated lighting within skirting brings an added sense of luxury. Meanwhile, the simplistic styles are still popular, bringing subtle shape to rooms, without demanding all the attention.
We’ve also seen popularity increasing for curved walls, which demand a flexible skirting board option to enhance the sense of movement to the structure of a space. Orac skirting boards are perfect for curved walls, due to their flexibility and ability to enrich the joint where floor meets wall.
Another trend out there at the moment is double layered, or two-toned skirting installations. Doubling up on skirting board, using different profile designs adds depth and contrast to a room. This would be a more expensive design option due to having to purchase double the amount of skirting and the need for skilled hands to install it correctly.
What adhesive is best to use to install skirting?
For the Orac skirting boards, we recommend Orac’s own Orac Deco Fix Extra Joint Glue and
Orac Deco Fix Power Coving Adhesive as these are built for their products to achieve the most flawless installation.
If you are installing the skirting against a window, we suggest that Stelmax 1961 Gapfiller & Sealant is used, as this is water resistant and protects seals.
For installation up against internal walls, the best adhesive for installation is a combination of Fix All High Tack Adhesive and decorator’s caulk. These options will help you get the perfectly seamless join between the skirting and the wall.
In external installations of architrave, Professional Low Modulus Neutral Silicone is best for adhering the board to the necessary surface as its weather, temperature and UV resistant.

A loft conversion is a brilliant way to add extra living space to your home, helping to free up a busy home or providing a guest suite for visitors. It is a really exciting, efficient and cost-effective alternative to an extension. To help you with your loft conversion project, we have combined a variety of ideas with our products to help you deliver a stunning space with minimal maintenance required.
EXTERIOR
Fascia, soffits and guttering
Fascias, soffits, and guttering are all essentials in the loft conversion project. However, finding the ideal roofline products for a loft conversion can be difficult.
Edge supplies a decorative roofline range, which is very popular in dormer and gable-end loft conversions. The range consists of decorative barge boards, roof spires and finials, Orac Exterior cornice and coving, gallows brackets and dentil mouldings – all of which will add to the personality of the loft conversion’s exterior appeal.
Square leg, bullnose and ogee fascia are all perfect for use on loft conversion rooflines. Don’t forget, we can spray them any RAL colour you like! Plus, our range of flat, vented, and hollow soffits to accompany them.
Whether you are trying to match your loft conversion’s guttering to the rest of the property, or if you are going for a completely new rainwater system, we’ve got you covered. We have half round, square, deep flow, and ogee guttering systems – all available in a range of colours. We also supply steel and aluminium guttering, for the ultimate finishing touch to any contemporary project. If you’re needing to cater for a more traditional style, our cast-iron style PVC guttering is perfect for your loft conversion
Cladding
Exterior cladding on loft conversions is like the icing on a cake. It adds another dimension to the personality of a property, especially if you install our Fortex cladding or Hardie Plank Fibre cement cladding.
Whether you are wanting to match some existing cladding on the property, or you want to make a bold statement of your loft conversion exterior by just cladding that area, we’ve got the cladding you need. Plus all the trims and necessary tools for an easy installation.
Windows
We have seen an increasing demand in the apex shaped windows for gable ends, and they look fantastic! Whilst providing a nice view from the interior, gable end windows also bring in lots of natural light, which can sometimes be harder to achieve in loft conversions. Apex windows are symbolic of a contemporary project, so they are ideal if you are looking to update the appearance of your property.
Window trims
For every good window installation, you must have the right trims, window board and cill to achieve the best look on the exterior your loft conversion. You’ll find everything you need at Edge – including fixings and sealants for the perfect installation – and don’t forget, we can spray your window trims any RAL colour!
INTERIOR
Interior panelling
Shower panelling is a fantastic solution for your shower room or wet room in the loft conversion. They are so easy to install, and will give the room a seamless, sleek appeal while having the benefits of being more hygienic and easy to clean – making them especially helpful for loft conversion spaces that will be used for entertainment or guest rooms.
Orac covings, panelling, and skirting
Our range of Orac decorative covings, panelling and skirting will give the interior walls of your loft conversion some character. Getting the interior walls right is important in determining the mood of the space. Consider the amount of space and levels of natural light before you decide what colour to paint the room. Darker walls will make the room feel a bit smaller, but cosy – while lighter colours will make the space seem bigger.
Whether you are aiming to create a traditional or more contemporary space, we will have the Orac covings and panelling to suit – just check out these Orac installation images:
So, what now?

Having a small bathroom to fit out can be challenging. Depending on what you decide to have in your bathroom, the consideration for space and positioning of the shower, basin and toilet is important – so that the small space is used in the most efficient way possible. In this blog, we’ve put together some ideas and trends for small bathrooms alongside some of our products to help you deliver a great bathroom with the space you have available.
Interior Cladding
Our Roomliner wall and ceiling cladding is a fantastic solution for a small bathroom. It doesn’t need grouting and is super easy to install. Smaller bathrooms often have trouble with condensation build up ruining any softer or painted surfaces – luckily, our Roomliner wall and ceiling panels actually reduce condensation!
The cladding panels come at 1000 x 2400mm, so if your bathroom is small, you won’t need to buy lots of panels to clad the whole room – saving money and space!
Cladding Installation
Installing our Roomliner cladding couldn’t be easier, and we have all the necessary sealants and trims to compliment the job. Our Stay Fresh Anti Mould Food Safe Silicone and Sanitary Silicone are perfectly matched to a bathroom cladding installation as they both contain anti-fungal agent, so prevent mould and discolouration happening to areas which are most exposed to water splashes.
Glazing
When possible, its best to have as much natural light into a bathroom as you can. Try to allow wall space for a window to be installed, if there isn’t one already there, as this will aid ventilation as well as light levels. There are also many options of privacy glass for bathrooms – satin, reeded and many other glass designs to suit your bathroom.
Of course, when installing a window, you will need window trims to match the window, so that the finished job is neat, tidy, and resistant to mould from the moisture levels in the room.
Get your windows, privacy glass and trims from Edge Building Products – and did we forget to mention that our window trims can be sprayed to any RAL or BS colour?

Plus, we have the ideal Glass and Mirror cleaner and Soudal Multi Cleaner Active Cleaner which both work amazingly on the glass and mirror elements of the bathroom, eliminating mould and streaks without much scrubbing at all!
Ideas and trends
Looking at the bathroom designs of 2022, we can see a few trends that have risen in popularity. In a small bathroom, it might seem hard to portray styles and designs in the limited space – but some trends we have found make the bathroom more bold and some make it seem more spacious
1. Statement marbles
One of the popular trends at the moment is having a continuous, bold marble pattern throughout floor and walls, this is highly achievable with our low maintenance, marble-effect interior panelling. Statement marble detail brings a luxury feel and opulent texture to a bathroom space, whatever the size
2. Plants aplenty
We’ve noticed that plants are becoming a more integral part of bathroom design, as they bring nature indoors and are almost a symbol of personal wellbeing. Bringing plants into your small bathroom will make it a spa-like sanctuary, whilst providing a focal point to punctuate the space. Even just a small plant on the window cill or by the basin can do tonnes for the room
3. Walk-in showers
Another popular trend that we discovered was having wet rooms or walk-showers with no shower screen and larger showing spaces. Gone are the small enclosed shower cubicles.

Although your roof isn’t always the most noticeable part of your home, its appearance says a lot about how well your property is cared for. Flat roofs are often built over extensions, and we have seen a massive increase in demand for home extensions. If these roofs aren’t properly waterproofed, it can cause so many problems and often damage which is costly to repair.
As autumn approaches, and level of dampness and rainfall increases, there isn’t a more important time to make sure your roof can withstand the elements – so here is our guide to ensuring your roof is waterproof before the winter.
Finding a leak in a flat roof
If your roof is leaking and have to put a bucket in the same place every time it rains, you’ll need to find out exactly where the water is coming from. The source of flat roof leaks can be hard to locate when you’re actually up on the roof, so a good tip is to figure it from inside the house. Measure the distance from the drip in the ceiling to the nearest wall. Then, when you’re on the roof, measure the same distance. This should help you to find where the water is getting in.
However, getting onto the roof to inspect it can be dangerous. If you are not sure that its safe to stand on the flat roof, then call a professional.
Another tip when checking your roof for leaks is to time it right – shortly after a period of rain. This will help you spot any issues. Checking the guttering for any malfunction is also recommended, as many roofing problems are as a result of gutter issues. Be sure that the guttering is free of dirt and debris.
How do you know what’s causing the problem?
Blistering – If you are noticing bubbles on our roof, this means that there are small pockets of air or moisture trapped beneath the membrane. As the sun heats the membrane, these pockets can expand and stretch the membrane. If the membrane is still intact and together, then leave the blisters. If the blister pops and breaks the membrane, you can apply a patch repair. Our tub of Soudagum hydro waterproof repair coating is fantastic for this.
Alligatoring – A funny word, but not so funny when you notice you have it on your roof! Alligatoring is when your roofing membrane starts to crack up and look a bit like an alligator’s skin. This is when sun damage has cracked up the coating – and yep, you guessed it – the cracks and splits can allow a lot of moisture in, which can cause havoc. But don’t worry, just coat the cracked area with our Soudagum hydro waterproof repair coating – its perfect for this issue too!
Ponding – If a puddle sits on your flat roof for over 48 hours without draining, it is known as ponding. This is quite common on flat roofs, but it can lead to over-stressed membrane, which allows moisture to get in. Keeping the gutters clean and clear of blockages is crucial to reduce ponding.
Lead waterproofing
Lead’s flexibility lends itself to give excellent sealing properties when used with the correct neutral cure sealants – like our Lead Sealant. Wherever there is a join between two surfaces, lead can provide a great seal. Lead can also be used as a covering for guttering too, helping make a roof 100% water-tight. A good quality, lead roof is said to be able to last as much as three times longer than other roofing materials. This is why many historic buildings and monuments have lead roofing – it is reliable, durable and a cost-effective option.
Butyl flashband
Our butyl flashband is a rubber-based sealing tape which provides a fast and excellent adhesion to many substrates. It is flexible even when cold, UV and weather resistant – keeping moisture out. Its super easy to install as it is a self-adhesive product. Butyl flashband is a perfect sealing solution for sealing around chimneys, air vents, skylights, window sills and sliding doors. Or repairing areas where previous membrane has worn away – just tape it up with this excellent universal sealing and repairing tape.
