In recent years, we’ve noticed that matt-coloured window trims have become increasingly popular. These types of trims are characterised by their flat, sandpaper-effect, non-glossy finish, which offers a more subtle and sophisticated look compared to traditional shiny or glossy trims. We explore why they are so popular in this blog.
Aesthetic Appeal
One of the primary reasons why window fitters love matt-coloured window trims is that they have a unique aesthetic appeal. These trims create a more muted, subdued look that is perfect for modern and contemporary homes. Matt finishes have become increasingly popular recently, as homeowners and designers seek a more refined, minimalist look.
While gloss finishes can be flashy and attention-grabbing, matt finishes offer a more understated elegance, making it the perfect solution for anyone looking to add a touch of sophistication and style to their home’s exterior.
Versatility
Perhaps the best thing about matt-finished window trims is that they’re incredibly versatile. Whether you’re looking to create a modern, minimalist look or a more rustic, natural aesthetic, matt finishes can work with just about any design style.
The versatility of matt finishes also extend to their compatibility with a wide range of colours. Matt black trims, for example, are a popular choice for window fitters who have installed black or Anthracite aluminium windows, as the matt finish matches and compliments the aluminium window finish.
Practicality
Matt finishes are also incredibly practical. Unlike shiny finishes, which tend to show every smudge and fingerprint, and require constant cleaning and polishing to stay looking their best, matt finishes are much more forgiving. So, whether you’re dealing with dirty little hands or muddy paws, your matt-finished trims will stay looking great. In fact, just a simple wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually all it takes to keep your trims in perfect condition.
Durability
Another benefit of matt finishes is that they tend to be more durable than gloss finishes. This is because the lack of a shiny surface means that scratches and imperfections are less noticeable, making the trims look newer for longer. Additionally, matt finishes are less likely to peel or fade over time, which means you won’t have to worry about constantly repainting or replacing your trims.
Sustainability
Finally, choosing matt-finished window trims can be a more sustainable choice for your home or building. This is because many of our matt-finished trims are made from a blend of recycled PVC. Additionally, the low-maintenance nature of matt finishes means you’ll use fewer resources on cleaning and upkeep over time.
So, if you’re ready to give your home’s exterior a fresh new look, consider matt-finished window trims. They’re practical, easy to maintain, and incredibly stylish. What more could you ask for?
At Edge, we supply the following matt painted window trims:
- Ulti-Matt White
- Ulti-Matt Black
- Smooth Sage
- Sprayed Matt Black (very low sheen)
Matt finishes have a way of making objects and spaces look more modern and futuristic, which is why they’re so popular in many aspects of retail. So, if you’re looking to update your home or project, consider going matt – you won’t be disappointed!

Polycarbonate sheets have gained popularity in the building industry due to their versatility, durability, and light-transmitting properties. They are often used as a cost-effective alternative to glass, and their high impact resistance makes them perfect for use in areas that require high safety standards. Polycarbonate, a classified thermoplastic, comes in different grades and thicknesses, making them suitable for various purposes. At Edge, we supply 10mm, 16mm, 25mm and 35mm thick polycarbonate sheets – plus, the 2mm solid sheets. Let’s explore some different applications.
One of the most popular applications of polycarbonate sheets in the building industry is in roofing. The panels are typically made up of multiple layers of polyca rbonate sheeting, which are laminated together to create a strong and durable roofing material. Polycarbonate roofing sheets are lightweight and can withstand harsh weather conditions, making them the ultimate choice for both residential and commercial buildings. They are also UV resistant, which helps to protect the underlying structure from the damaging effects of the sun. Polycarbonate roofing sheets are available in different colours and textures, making them suitable for a wide range of architectural designs. Roofers are likely to choose polycarbonate sheets for some of their projects due to its light weight and easy installation. No more lugging heavy glass up tall ladders, with the huge risk of damage to person and property! PVC roofing sheets are also fire-resistant, making them ideal for use in areas that require high safety standards.
In addition to their use in roofing applications, polycarbonate sheets are also commonly used in the construction of wall cladding systems and partitions, often acting as sound barriers and noise walls. Polycarb sheets are brilliant in these settings because of their sturdiness and because they are manufactured to reduce noise levels, making them suitable for use in the urban areas. The sheets can also be customised to fit the shape of the barrier or wall, making them an ideal solution for complex office spaces and conference rooms. Polycarbonate panels are also a popular choice for areas such as hospitals and schools, where hygiene and cleanliness are important. These panels are easy to clean and maintain, and they are also resistant to scratches and impact damage. Polycarbonate partitions are also commonly used in office buildings and other commercial spaces, where privacy and noise reduction are important.
Polycarbonate roofing sheets are often used in greenhouses and other agricultural structures. They work well in these applications because they are lightweight, durable, and can protect plants and animals from the elements. As the polycarbonate roofing sheets are UV resistant, they helps to protect the plants from the damaging effects of the sun. The different grades and thicknesses available make the sheets suitable for different types of plants and growing conditions.
Polycarbonate sheets are also commonly used in skylights, orangeries, and atriums. They bring many benefits to these types of installation because, like glass, they transmit lots of light, making them suitable for creating bright and airy spaces – allowing natural light to filter into buildings while still protecting them from the elements. Polycarbonate sheets can also be curved and shaped to fit the shape of the building, which broadens the design opportunities for architectural developments.
Plastic roof sheets are also commonly used in the construction of canopies, walkways, and awnings. These structures are designed to provide shade and protection from the elements, and they are commonly used in outdoor dining areas, shopping centres, and other commercial spaces. Polycarbonate sheets are a perfect choice for canopies and awnings, as they are lightweight, easy to install, and provide excellent protection from the sun and rain. Another great application of polycarbonate sheets is swimming pool houses or enclosures. The sheets protect the pool from the elements and provide shelter for swimmers. They are available in different grades and thicknesses, making them suitable for different types of swimming pools and enclosure designs.
So there’s quite a few ways you can use polycarbonate sheeting in your projects! If you have any questions or would like a quotation – we’d love to help. Give us a call on 03450213333 or pop an email to [email protected] with your requirements.

More and more, people are turning to wall panels as practical and stylish design solutions for bathrooms, and Zest have created the ultimate product range of shower panels for you to work with, and to offer your clients.
Wall panels are one of the next big interior design trends. Often referred to as ‘wet wall panels,’ their popularity is due to their easy installation, and practical and versatile qualities. As such, they are becoming an increasingly popular choice when it comes to kitchen and bathroom refurbishments.
Our lives are becoming increasingly busy, and time is limited, so homeowners are choosing to cut their cleaning time short by opting for easy to manage and stylish PVC shower panels. With no need for touching up grouting, descaling or scrubbing mould and mildew from their bathroom, it’s no wonder that they are so popular.
Working with wet walls – what do you need to know?
As tradesmen, there are a few things to bear in mind when it comes to working with wet walls, wall panels or shower panels. If you’re new to the concept, we have everything you need to know in this blog, and once you have discovered the ease of application, you will never want to use tiles again. Wall panels are easier and far quicker to install with just a few simple tools than traditional tiling, saving you and your team time and money.
Wall panels offer more design options than tiles, paint, or wallpaper and give a realistic finish. This results in an ideal alternative to other more traditional wall covering systems.
In this blog, we aim to give you as much information as possible about wall panelling, including where wall panels are best used and the benefits of using them in the home, so that you are armed with a wealth of information in your toolkit when it comes to advising your clients. We will also introduce you to Zest Shower Panels, a popular product which we stock from one of our most trusted suppliers.
Introduction to Zest:
Edge Building Services are a leading stockist of Zest’s shower panels. Zest create unique, stylish and modern wall panel designs. All of the Zest wall panels are 100% waterproof, made with a quick to install tongue and groove design and are easy to maintain. They are available with a variety of different effects including stone, tile, wood and marble, with various finishes including satin or gloss.
Zest’s collection of wall panels includes a range of sizes and thicknesses, here are a few of our favourite products:
- ZX 5mmm thick wall panels are available in two sizes: 600 x 2600mm (shower wall) and 300 x 600mm (tiles) and are available in Roccia and Grey Concrete colourways.
- 1 metre wall panels – these are Zest’s widest and most popular panels. Available in over 15 designs, including white gloss, platinum, black diamond, white diamond, to name but a few.
- 500mm, 375mm, 350mm or 250mm Wall Panels. These large wall panels can be used in either a shower area, or to cover an entire room and are digitally printed.
- Ceiling panels – A huge advantage of these is that there is no need to paint. There is no risk of paint peeling from the moisture caused by hot water in bathrooms for example. Seamless, neat and easy to install design.
Wall panel usage
Wall panels can be used for various applications in both residential and commercial properties.
Residential: In residential properties, wall panels can be used in both kitchens and bathrooms to create a modern look with minimal effort.
Commercial – in commercial environments, wall panels can be used to line walls of public facing settings in restaurants, hotels, bars, offices, salons— as well as ‘working’ kitchens and bathrooms, basically any space that needs an easy to maintain, modern finish.
As previously mentioned, the greatest benefit of using these wall panels is that they are easy to install compared to other types of finishes like tiles or wallpaper. Wall panels come in many sizes and colours so homeowners can match them with their existing décor or create a completely new look with ease. They also require minimal maintenance; a quick wipe down will keep them looking good as new, making them the perfect solution for homeowners who are time poor.
The benefits of wall panels
Cost effectiveness:
Regardless of the function or aesthetic effect you’re wanting to achieve, wall panels are often a cheaper alternative. Many of us dream of a certain style for our homes, and your clients will likely have their heart and sights set on a particular look, which until relatively recently with the introduction of wall panels, may have been tricky both practically and financially to achieve.
Practicality:
Wall panels come in a range of designs from marble, brick, slate and tiles to name just a few. Wall panels are a top choice for bathrooms/wet rooms or kitchens where wipe clean and waterproof surfaces are desired.
Long lasting:
In most cases, wall panels can be fitted over existing wall coverings, even tiles. Most wall panels are made using PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) and have natural waterproofing qualities. Due to their synthetic nature, they are designed to be long-lasting, with little management and so are a worthwhile investment for any environment.
Insulation:
Wall panels provide excellent insulation because they don’t allow heat or cold air to escape through cracks like tiles do. They also have the added benefit of being able to be replaced easily if the homeowner decides to redecorate or chooses a different colour theme. Wall panels can easily be removed and replaced with something new!
In conclusion, at Edge Building Products we believe shower panels are a great alternative to tiling, wallpaper and paint for kitchens, bathrooms and other interior areas of high moisture content. The variety of quality PVC panels on the market has enabled us to keep up with client’s changing lifestyles and embrace the advances of modern technology.
We hope you’ll enjoy working with shower panels and if we can help in any way, just give our team a call on 0345 021 3333 or come and visit us in store in either Horsham, Chichester or Croydon.
March IOM Article – Neil Ansell Building & Carpentry
This month, we’re pleased to award Neil Ansell Building & Carpentry with the Installation of the Month award, for his fantastic installation of window, door and lantern and the glazing, also supplying fascia, soffits and guttering in his project located in the Horsham area.
Photography credits: Locations Photography.
The project started in late September 2022, and the shell was complete by early December. Neil went back to the project in the new year 2023 to build the porch and lay flooring after the kitchen had been fitted. The company had a few challenges to tackle during the project – one of these was negotiations with the water works company, and another was fitting some products in the colder, fluctuating temperatures.
Neil comments ‘Edge’s bespoke team were helpful with sourcing the window, door and lantern and the glazing.’
Congratulations Neil on your award for this fantastic project – we look forward to seeing more of your work in the future!

Our PVC underground drainage pipes are commonly used in the construction of drainage systems for both residential and commercial projects. These pipes are made from a durable and lightweight material, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is resistant to chemicals, corrosion, and weathering. They are also easy to install and maintain, making them a popular choice among contractors and homeowners. Here we’ll be delving into the different types of PVC underground drainage systems and presenting some best practices to follow when installing them.
One of the major advantages of PVC underground drainage pipes is their durability. PVC pipes are designed to withstand heavy loads and high pressure, making them an ideal choice for underground drainage systems that are often subjected to these stresses. They are also resistant to chemical corrosion a nd damage from weathering, which ensures they have a long lifespan and will not degrade over time.
We know you don’t want to have to dig up your underground drainage system to replace it a short time after you install it!
Why choose PVC for underground drainage?
Another benefit of PVC underground drainage pipes is their lightweight design. Unlike traditional drainage pipes made from materials like concrete or cast iron, PVC pipes are lightweight and easy to manoeuvre. This makes them easier to install and transport, which can reduce completion time and labour costs – no more lugging heavy materials around on-site and wasting good money that could be spent elsewhere on your project.
PVC pipes can be quickly and easily cut to size, allowing contractors to create custom lengths of piping that fit the specific needs of a project. They can also be joined together using a variety of connection methods, including solvent welding and mechanical couplings, which allows for flexibility and versatility in installation.
Unlike other types of drainage pipes that may require regular cleaning or repairs, PVC pipes are resistant to corrosion and blockages. This means that they require minimal maintenance over their lifespan, which can save time and money for property owners.
Another advantage of PVC underground drainage pipes is their affordability. PVC is a relatively inexpensive material compared to other types of drainage pipe materials, which can make it a cost-effective choice for drainage systems. Additionally, the ease of installation and low maintenance requirements can further reduce costs associated with installation and upkeep.
Our recommendations for underground drainage – Giving your project the Edge.
At Edge, we stock soakaway crates, drainage pipes, channel drainage, manholes, chamber bases and tools for a simple installation. Our team is always on hand with helpful advice and guidance. Let’s have a closer look at our range.
Soakaway crates, sometimes known as attenuation crates, are a type of underground water storage system used to manage surface water runoff. They are designed to capture excess rainwater and slowly release it into the ground to prevent flooding and erosion. Soakaway crates are made of plastic and have a honeycomb-like structure that allows for efficient water storage and filtration. They are easy to install and maintain, and can be used in a variety of applications, including residential, commercial, and industrial settings. We also supply the Geotextile membrane to go with the soakaway crates.
Drainage pipes, bends, branches, and gullies are essential components of a drainage system that helps to remove wastewater and surface water from buildings and outdoor areas. Our drainage pipes come in various sizes and shapes to fit specific needs. Bends, branches, and gullies are used to change the direction of the flow and prevent blockages. Drainage systems require a small amount of maintenance to prevent clogging and ensure proper function.
Our PVC chamber bases and manholes are used to provide access to the drainage system for maintenance and repair and can be customised to fit specific requirements. Chamber bases are used to create a base for the manhole, while manholes provide access to the drainage system for cleaning, inspection, and repairs. They are an essential part of any drainage system and must be installed correctly to ensure proper function.
Channel drainage, also known as linear drainage, is another type of drainage system used to collect and remove surface water runoff. It consists of a long, narrow channel with a grate on top that allows water to enter. The water is then directed to a drainpipe or soakaway crate. Channel drainage is commonly used in driveways, patios, car parks and other outdoor areas where water runoff can cause damage. It is easy to install and can be customised to fit specific needs.
Our PVC underground drainage systems are an excellent choice for a variety of drainage applications due to their durability, ease of installation, low maintenance requirements, and affordability. While there are some potential considerations to keep in mind, such as susceptibility to extreme temperatures and expansion and contraction, these can be mitigated with proper installation and design. Overall, PVC underground drainage pipes offer a reliable and cost-effective solution for drainage needs in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
Should you have any questions about our range of underground drainage pipes or require a quotation, please reach out to [email protected] or give us a call on 0345 021 3333.
PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) wall and ceiling panels and cladding are an increasingly popular choice for areas of the home or workplace that require high standards of hygiene for example, kitchens or bathrooms. Often called ‘hygiene boards/panels’ for this very reason, they are specifically designed to provide a hygienic and sanitary environment, due to their anti-bacterial resistance and durability, whilst still appearing aesthetically pleasing and not compromising the interior styling of the space.
PVC wall and ceiling cladding or hygienic boards are a rapidly growing in popularity as a modern building material, and due to their durability, easy installation, affordability and aesthetic appeal, hygiene boards are fast becoming a hot trend for consumers too.
They can be installed as a single layer or in multiple layers depending on the desired result. PVC cladding is also fire resistant (many coming with a certified fire rating), water resistant, and have good thermal insulation properties to keep homes or commercial spaces comfortable and maximising on energy efficiency throughout the year.
PVC cladding can also be found in many different colours and finishes to allow creative freedom when designing spaces. Hygienic boards or ceiling panels are commonly used in domestic kitchens and bathrooms but are also a popular choice in commercial spaces where cleanliness and hygiene is paramount. PVC panelling is also an ideal choice for these spaces as they are able to provide both practicality and aesthetic appeal at an affordable price, something of growing importance in today’s climate!
Everything you need to know about PVC wall and ceiling cladding:
Here are some of the key need-to-know points to equip you with the tools to be able to provide your clients with all the knowledge they need to ensure they are making the right decision for their home or commercial interior.
- PVC panels are an excellent alternative to paint or tiles in bathrooms as they provide superior hygienic protection and have been shown to help reduce the spread of germs.
- PVC panels are waterproof, easy to clean and maintain, and can be customised to fit any bathroom space perfectly.
- Available in a wide variety of colours and styles, making it easy to create a beautiful, modern look for your bathroom. PVC wall and ceiling panels are also extremely durable and resistant to mould, mildew and bacteria which makes them the ideal choice for high traffic bathrooms.
- PVC panels are low maintenance. They require no grouting or sealing, making installation quick and cost effective.
How does the antibacterial benefit work?
The main advantage of using hygiene panels is their anti-bacterial properties. The surface of these panels inhibits the growth of unwanted and harmful bacteria which can cause food contamination or health issues from poor hygiene. This means that surfaces stay cleaner for longer periods of time without regular intensive cleaning, again a huge benefit to your clients!
In addition, hygiene wall and ceiling cladding prevents water ingress which can cause damage to walls and ceilings over time due to moisture retention. These panels, when sourced, installed and cared for correctly, have a long-life span, typically lasting at least 20 years, but depending on the PVC cladding used, some high performance PVC cladding will last up to 50 years, if maintained correctly.
Colours and Styles:
Hygienic PVC cladding and ceiling panels also come in many colours, thickness and designs which can add an aesthetic appeal to any space they are installed in. Long gone are the days where all that was on offer was a plain white sheet!
Here at Edge Building Products, we stock a variety of brands to help you achieve the desired result:
- Zest Wall Panels – For a more stylish effect, popular in residential environments, Zest Wall Panels offer modern, trendy and practical solutions, again, they are available in different widths. With Zest’s products, you can achieve authentic stone, marble, wood or tiling effects, using Cascade Shower Panels, PVC cladding wall and ceiling panels. All of Zest’s panels are 100% waterproof, with an ultra easy to install tongue and groove slotting design.

Window cills, also known as window ledges and sometimes spelt ‘sills’ or windowsills, are horizontal ledges located at the bottom of windows. Although often overlooked, they serve an important purpose for the window fitter and homeowner – and offer numerous benefits. Here we explore why window cills are a good idea to install when you fit your windows.
- Protection from Water Damage
Window cills play an important role in protecting your home from water damage. When rainwater falls on the outside of your window, it can easily enter your home if there is no proper barrier to stop it. Window cills provide this barrier, preventing water from entering your home and causing water damage to the walls and floors. This is particularly important for homes in areas that experience frequent rainfall.
- Energy Efficiency
Window cills also contribute to energy efficiency in your home. When properly installed, they create a seal between the window frame and the wall, reducing air leakage and preventing drafts. This means that your home will be more energy efficient, as less air will escape, and less energy will be required to heat or cool your home. Additionally, some window cills are made from materials with insulating properties, which can further improve energy efficiency – like PVC for example!
- Interior Design
Window cills can also enhance the interior design of your home. They provide a natural shelf that can be used to display decorative items or plants. Depending on the size of the cill, it can also serve as additional seating or storage space. The material and colour of the window cill can be chosen to complement the overall interior design of your home, adding to its aesthetic appeal.
- Protection from Insects
Window cills can also help to keep insects out of your home. By creating a barrier between the window frame and the wall, they prevent insects from entering through gaps or cracks. This is particularly important for homes in areas with a high population of insects, such as mosquitoes or ants.
- Protection from Accidents
Window cills can also help to prevent accidents. They provide a barrier between the window and the floor, preventing objects from falling out of the window and potentially injuring someone below. This is particularly important for homes with young children or pets.
- Durability
Window cills are typically made from durable materials such as PVC, wood, or metal, which can withstand the test of time. This means that they do not require frequent replacement or repair, making them a cost-effective investment in the long run.
- Easy Maintenance
Window cills are also relatively easy to maintain. They can be wiped down with a damp cloth to remove dust and debris. PVC window cills do not require occasional sealing or refinishing to maintain their appearance and durability – making them a very straightforward option to install.
- Soundproofing
Window cills can also provide some degree of soundproofing. By creating a barrier between the window and the wall, they can help to reduce outside noise from entering your home. This is particularly important for homes located in noisy areas, such as near a busy road or airport.
So, as you can see, window cills are a pretty good idea for a variety of reasons! They provide protection from water damage, enhance energy efficiency, add to the interior design of your home, keep insects out, prevent accidents, are durable and easy to maintain, and provide some degree of soundproofing. For these reasons, investing in window cills is a smart choice for any homeowner.

In the building industry, both anthracite grey and black are popular choices for both exterior and interior finishes. The preference for one colour over the other can vary depending on several factors such as geographical location, building type, and current trends. The way the colour is actually being used can also have a direct impact on the choice, so knowing when to recommend colour options can be important.
At Edge, our customers are always drawn to the dramatic shades of black and grey and often ask advice about choosing the right colour options for their space. In this article, we will explore the popularity of anthracite grey and black in the building industry and help define good use cases for both.
Anthracite Grey
Anthracite grey is a modern colour that provides a sleek and contemporary look to buildings with a colour that similar to charcoal or slate grey. It is a popular choice for windows, doors, and cladding materials such as aluminium, steel, and fibre cement cladding. It has gained popularity in recent years due to its ability to complement various architectural styles.
When paired with shades of Grey or white it can be used to create a stylish monochromatic look. It can also be used as an accent or complimenting colour when paired with brighter hues such as red, yellow, or green.
Another factor that contributes to the popularity of anthracite grey is its durability. It is a colour that does not fade easily, making it a suitable choice for outdoor applications. Additionally, it is a colour that does not show dirt and stains easily, making it a low-maintenance option for building finishes.
Black
Black is a classic colour that has been used in the building industry for centuries, often associated with sophistication, elegance, and luxury. Black is most often used in roofing, windows, and doors, as well as in interior finishes such as paint and flooring.
One of the reasons for the popularity of black is its ability to create a dramatic contrast against lighter colours such as white, cream, or beige. It can be used to create a striking visual impact that can be used to draw attention to specific areas of a building.
Black can also be used to great effect when thinking about different styles and moods. It can create a traditional look when paired with brick or stone, or a modern look when paired with metal or glass.
Anthracite Grey vs. Black: Which is More Popular?
The popularity of anthracite grey and black in the building industry often depends on location and current trends. In some regions, one colour may be more popular than the other.
For example, here in the UK and Europe, anthracite grey is a popular choice for windows and doors, while black is more commonly used for roofing. Whilst In the United States, black seems to be a more popular colour for exterior finishes, including siding, roofing, and trim.
In terms of current UK trends, both anthracite grey and black are popular choices for modern and contemporary buildings. The use of these colours has become increasingly popular in recent years due to the rise of modern minimalistic design and the need for low-maintenance finishes.
However, some designers and architects argue that the popularity of these colours may be waning, especially Anthracite grey. They believe that the use of brighter and bolder colours will become more popular in the coming years, as people seek to create more vibrant and lively living spaces.
We believe that there will always be a demand for both true black and dark grey shades due to their versatile nature. They link in nicely with almost any property style and can both help achieve great effects.
Giving you the Edge – what we recommend
Anthracite grey is a modern colour that provides a sleek and contemporary look, while black is a classic colour that is associated with elegance and sophistication. For larger spaces which also employ glass or other modern materials, anthracite grey is a great option for making an environment feel open and clean without being too hard or industrial.
When you have specific features you want to draw people’s attention to then black may be a great option to help achieve this. If the client doesn’t like the use of black, then pairing anthracite grey with a bold colour such as red, yellow, or green would be a great alternative.
At Edge, you can purchase most of our products in Anthracite Grey or Black, as they are both in our standard colours range. From guttering and window trims to roof lanterns and silicone, we’ve got it covered.

When looking for the best exterior door to enhance the security, insulation and accessibility of the home, it’s important to understand the different doors that are available and the benefits each of them offer.
Composite doors and uPVC doors are two popular options when it comes to exterior doors, and both offer a range of advantages that make them an ideal choice for the home.
Did you know that up to 10-20% of a house’s heat can be lost through external windows and doors? The efficiency of these glazing systems is therefore extremely important. In 2010, new doors were required to have energy efficiency assessments, and must score a U Value rating of 1.8W/m2K or less. The lower the door’s U Value rating is, the more energy efficient it is, so when homeowners are deciding which door to pick for their home, it’s important to pay close attention to the lower scores!
Low-maintenance windows and doors are often an important consideration for time-poor property owners, and alongside this, cost will almost always be one of the biggest considerations when choosing a door.
Then there is the all-important security factor. Will the exterior door protect the home from intruders? How strong will be it, and will homeowners sleep soundly at night, safe in the knowledge that their door is robust and secure?
In this blog, we will drill down to both composite doors and uPVC doors and explore the benefits of each.
Best exterior door: Composite Doors
Composite doors are a great option for homeowners looking for a stylish door to protect their property. They are classic in appearance but modern in their make-up, and the combination of materials that are used in their construction makes them incredibly secure and highly energy efficient.
Composite doors are constructed from a mixture of materials, but the main material is timber which is a natural insulator. Other materials in their make-up are insulating foam, laminate, uPVC and fibre glass. This winning combination creates an incredibly strong and secure door.
Newer, modern doors such as composite doors, are both better insulated and more likely to fit tightly into door frames, therefore reducing draughts. Because composite doors have excellent thermal insulation properties, they retain heat within the home during colder months, and this means homeowners don’t have to spend unnecessary amounts on energy bills…. an important consideration during this cost-of-living crisis.
Composite doors also offer a much more aesthetically pleasing look than many other types of doors. They come in a variety of styles and colours to suit many different styles of home, which makes it possible to find a door that fits perfectly with the homeowner’s taste and preference. Many composite doors offer the opportunity to add a feature glass design to add character to the door through bespoke artistic, colourful options or privacy glass.
Composite doors are extremely robust and durable too; they won’t warp or crack over time with fluctuations in the weather and are long-lasting without needing regular maintenance. In addition, composite doors include multi-point locking systems which ensures the home is kept safe and secure from intruders.
They also require very little maintenance; since they are made from several components, there is less risk of damage or wear-and-tear over time. So as a long-term investment, composite doors are a great option.
All in all, composite doors are an ideal choice for those looking for superior energy efficiency combined with added style, bespoke design and security for the home.
Best exterior door: uPVC Doors
uPVC doors have become increasingly popular over the last couple of decades. uPVC, or ‘n-plasticised polyvinyl chloride’, is a synthetic plastic material and the third most widely produced polymer of plastic. uPVC is considerably cheaper than timber, and with a longer life span, and for this reason, they have long been the favoured material for windows too.
uPVC, like composite doors, have excellent insulation capabilities. When fitted correctly, uPVC doors form closed air systems that are effective in minimising heat loss, so they are great for keeping out draughts and keeping heat in, making them perfect for energy efficiency.
uPVC doors also offer a high level of security for the home and are long-lasting with minimal upkeep or repair needed. Not only this, but they are available in a wide range of styles and can be matched with the same style uPVC windows.
PVC is resistant to weathering and rot making them an ideal solution for front doors… it doesn’t react with water or air, making it the perfect choice for properties in locations where high salt content can cause issues, such as by the sea.
Perhaps the biggest reason homeowners choose uPVC doors is their value for money and low maintenance. uPVC is easily cleaned and requires minimal upkeep from the homeowner…. a quick wipe down with a cloth or soft brush is all that’s needed to keep these doors looking as good as new. Installation of uPVC doors is also relatively easy compared to other materials.
Should homeowners choose uPVC or Composite Doors?
In some instances, uPVC doors can be up to 40%-60% cheaper than composite doors, and cost can often be the reason why homeowners choose one over the other. Composite doors have a more advanced make-up, and this is naturally reflected in the price.
Both composite doors and uPVC doors offer plenty of great benefits that should be considered when selecting the best exterior door for the home. Both types of doors provide added security features such as reinforced frames or multi-point locking systems which will help protect the property from potential intruders. However, if comparing the two for security, composite doors do offer marginally more security than uPVC, and they also slightly outperform uPVC doors when looking at their energy efficiency, due to their thickness.
Ultimately, deciding between uPVC or Composite as the best exterior door will come down to personal preference based on budget constraints and desired look and style.
Edge Building Products sell a wide range of uPVC doors with both flat or moulded panels, stable doors, patio doors and French doors….. uPVC remain our most popular type of door! Polyvinyl chloride (PVC or uPVC) is a very popular plastic material widely used in the construction industry for various purposes. It is highly versatile and offers a wide range of benefits, making it a popular choice for architects, builders, and homeowners alike. In this blog, we’re explaining why PVC is widely used in the construction industry, and why we think you should consider using it in your project.
For anyone who is interested in the technical side of things – PVC is a thermoplastic material made from the polymerization of vinyl chloride. It is one of the most widely produced synthetic plastics globally, with a vast range of applications across various industries. In the construction industry, PVC is used for various purposes, from window frames to guttering, and soffit boards to fascia boards.
One of the biggest reasons why plastics are so widely used in construction is its low maintenance requirements. PVC is highly resistant to weathering, corrosion, and decay, which makes it an excellent choice for exterior applications. It does not rot, warp, or splinter, and it does not require regular painting or staining, unlike traditional materials such as wood.
uPVC is also highly durable, which makes it ideal for use in high-traffic areas such as windows and doors. It can withstand heavy use and is resistant to impact and scratches, making it a suitable material for both commercial and residential buildings.
Another benefit of PVC is its high quality. PVC is manufactured to meet strict quality standards, which ensures that it is of a consistent and reliable quality. It is also available in a range of colours and finishes – for example, smooth, matte or woodgrain, making it a versatile material that can be used to complement the design and style of any building.
UPVC is another way of saying unplasticised PVC – this is a type of PVC that has been specifically engineered for use in the construction industry. It is a more rigid and stronger material than standard PVC, which makes it an ideal choice for use in window frames and doors. UPVC is also highly resistant to UV damage and impact, which means it is less likely to discolour, crack or break, even in harsh weather conditions.
One of the most common uses of PVC in the construction industry is for fascia boards and soffit boards. These boards are used to cover the eaves of a roof and provide a neat and attractive finish to the building. PVC fascia and soffit boards are an excellent choice as they are lightweight, easy to install, and require minimal maintenance.
PVC is also widely used for window trims, which are the decorative pieces that cover the gaps between the window frame and the wall. Plastic window trims are available in a range of colours and finishes, making them an excellent choice for both modern and traditional buildings.
Windows and doors are perhaps the most significant use of PVC in the construction industry. PVC window frames and doors are an excellent choice for both new builds and renovations, as they offer a range of benefits. Plastic windows and doors are energy-efficient, which means they help to keep the building warm in winter and cool in summer. They are also highly durable, low maintenance, and available in a range of styles and finishes.
PVC windows and doors are also an excellent choice for sound insulation. PVC is an excellent sound insulator, which means it can help to reduce noise pollution from outside the building. This is particularly important in urban areas, where noise pollution can be a significant problem.
Another benefit of uPVC windows and doors is that they are highly secure. Plastic window frames and doors are fitted with multi-point locking systems, which make them extremely difficult to break into. This is an essential consideration for homeowners, who want to ensure the safety and security of their property.
In addition to the benefits of PVC, it is also an environmentally friendly material. PVC is recyclable, which means that it can be reused to create new products. PVC can also be produced with fewer emissions than other materials, which makes it a more sustainable choice for the construction industry.

Our bifold and sliding doors are a popular choice for homeowners who want to maximize space and create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor areas. However, like any home improvement project, the installation of these doors can come with its fair share of potential problems, and our customers often ask us – how can these problems be avoided so we don’t waste time and money on site?
So, this blog covers some of the most common problems that can occur when installing bifold and sliding doors, and offers you some solutions!
Improper Measurements
One of the most common problems with installing bifold and sliding doors is inaccurate measurements. The doors must fit perfectly in the opening, and even a small mistake can lead to significant issues. If the doors are too big, they will not fit in the space, and if they are too small, there will be gaps that can cause air and water leaks.
Solution: The key to avoiding measurement issues is to get a professional installer on board take accurate measurements. It is essential to measure the opening width and height, as well as the depth and width of the walls surrounding the opening. This information will help the installer determine the right size and type of door for the space.
Uneven Flooring
Another issue that can arise when installing bifold doors and sliding doors is uneven flooring. If the floor is not level, it can cause the doors to sit at an angle, making them difficult to open and close.
Solution: If the flooring is uneven, you will obviously need to level it before installing the doors. This can be done using a self-levelling compound, which will create a smooth, even surface for the doors to sit on.
Poorly Installed Track Systems
Bifolds and sliding doors rely on track systems to function properly. If the tracks aren’t properly installed, the doors can be difficult to open and close, and they may not slide smoothly.
Solution: To avoid problems with the track system, it is essential to use high-quality tracks and hardware. A professional installer will have the expertise to install the track system correctly, ensuring that the doors operate smoothly.
Warping and Misalignment
Bifold and sliding doors are made of multiple panels that can be heavy, especially if they are made of wood. Over time, the weight of the doors can cause warping or misalignment, leading to problems with opening and closing.
Solution: To avoid warping and misalignment, it is important to choose high-quality doors made of materials that are resistant to warping. For example, our aluminium range is an excellent choice for bifold and sliding doors, as they are highly resistant. Also, occasional maintenance and adjustment of the doors can help prevent warping and misalignment over time.
Insufficient sealing
Bifold and sliding doors are often used as exterior doors, which means they must provide adequate insulation to keep out drafts and moisture. Insufficient sealing or gasket can lead to air and water leaks, which can cause significant problems, such as mould and mildew growth and higher energy bills.
Solution: To avoid weather sealing issues, it is important to choose doors that come with high-quality gasket pre-installed and use weather-proof silicones. Additionally, regular maintenance and replacement of weather-stripping can help ensure that the doors provide adequate insulation over time.
In conclusion, bifolds and sliders are a popular choice for homeowners, but they can come with potential problems. Improper measurements, uneven flooring, poorly installed track systems, warping and misalignment, and insufficient weather-stripping and sealing are all issues that can arise when installing these doors. The key to avoiding these problems is really to work with a professional installer who has the expertise and certification to ensure that the doors are installed correctly. Additionally, choosing high-quality doors made of durable materials and keeping them in good condition can help ensure that they function properly over time. By taking these steps, you can enjoy the many benefits of bifolding and sliding doors in your project without worrying about the doors jamming shut or leaking.

Why is guttering so essential for any property?
Guttering is an essential part of the roofing system for all properties and can help protect the entire property from a range of problems. A very small percentage of properties in the UK are without guttering and they are the exception, not the rule. Having a good quality drainage system in place is important for any homeowner looking for peace of mind when it comes to keeping their property safe.
Guttering plays a key role in helping to keep rainwater away from the property, particularly in the UK, where discussing if it’s going to rain or not is a national obsession! Without proper drainage solutions, rainwater could be left to run off the roof into areas around the house, possibly eroding the foundations and causing water damage to walls or even leading to flooding inside the home. Water damage to any property is costly and difficult to repair and can, if not treated quickly, lead to major building or repair work.
Guttering works because it directs the water away from the property and minimises the chances of this damage. In short, guttering catches rainwater that is running off the property’s roof surfaces and then safely diverts it away from the property via drains or other drainage systems.
Additionally, rainwater is often captured and stored by householders for gardening. Guttering redirects water into water butts and storage tanks. Furthermore, water can be channelled into larger storage tanks for use in the home, although special care is needed to ensure it is safe for human consumption.
What are the different types of metal guttering?
With a range of different types and materials of guttering available, each with its own set of benefits, it can be difficult to decide which type of guttering is right for your clients’ property. In this blog we will look at the benefits of metal guttering to help you guide homeowners in their decision.
When choosing which type of metal guttering is best for the property, there are several options available.
Steel gutters are one of the most widely used options as they provide excellent corrosion resistance, meaning they will last longer than many other types of material even when exposed to prolonged amounts of moisture or humidity.
Aluminium gutters are also a popular choice due to their light weight and ease of installation, while remaining strong enough to handle heavier rains and storms without becoming damaged or misshapen over time.
Cast iron gutters are also an option but may require more maintenance than the other two types of metal due to their susceptibility to rust if not sealed properly against moisture exposure.
What are the benefits of metal guttering?
One of the main advantages of using metal guttering is its strength and durability. This type of guttering can withstand extreme weather conditions including high winds, heavy rain and snowfall without being damaged or compromised. This makes it a great choice for properties that are exposed to harsher environments than others, as metal guttering won’t succumb to damage like plastic or wood could.
Another major benefit of using metal guttering is that it requires minimal maintenance compared to other materials. Unlike plastic or wooden alternatives which may need regular cleaning and repair, metal can be left alone for years without needing much attention at all. This makes this type of guttering an ideal option for homeowners who want a low-maintenance solution that still provides effective drainage solutions.
Aluminium guttering can also be considered as largely beneficial for the environment as it is non-toxic and less at risk to chipping and breaking than uPVC pipes. It is also considered a safer option as it does not alter the acidity of rainwater. Aluminium is considered by some to be the most eco-friendly alternative for guttering material and is often a favoured product for roofers. It is a largely durable product, surviving adverse weather conditions and lasting for years without repairs or maintenance.
Steel guttering also has multiple benefits, including its ability to resist thermal effects. Galvanised steel is made by coating regular steel with a layer of zinc oxide to protect it from corrosion and rust. The process of galvanizing the steel gives it superior protection against extreme temperatures, moisture, oxidation, corrosion, fire, and other factors that can damage or destroy other metals over time. It doesn’t experience expansion or contracting like other metals and steel guttering therefore has excellent lifetime value, and, unlike uPVC guttering, it is recyclable.
If properly maintained, metal guttering can last a very long time. Not only is it strong and less at risk to sagging, it is also a fantastic option for maintaining Victorian and character buildings. However, it’s important to note that metal guttering is, of course, a heavier option, which can make transportation and installation harder.
In summary, metal guttering is a fantastic solution to keep buildings protected from water damage and to reduce the levels of maintenance required compared to other cheaper materials such as uPVC. Though metal guttering can be more of a financial commitment, and is heavier, it’s durability and strength make it a better choice. If sealed properly and cleaned regularly, metal gutters are likely to be longer lasting, and for the environment-conscious homeowner, the non-toxic materials will have less environmental damage.

Installing PVC windows and doors in the home has numerous benefits, both short-term and long-term. Not only are these frames aesthetically pleasing and require minimal maintenance, but they are also highly durable and offer superior insulation performance compared to other materials such as hardwood, softwood and aluminium.
In this blog we will look at the benefits of PVC windows and doors in more detail to ensure we are arming you with all the information you need to help your clients decide on whether PCV is right for them and their property.
What is PVC?
Polyvinyl Chloride, or PVC for short, is a material used in the construction of window and door frames and has become increasingly popular over the last couple of decades due to their long-lasting nature, energy efficiency, cost effectiveness and easy installation.
PVC is a strong plastic composite that’s resistant to weathering, rot, and corrosion, making them an ideal choice for homes in areas that are subject to low temperatures.
What are the practical benefits of using PVC windows and doors?
PVC has higher insulation properties than other window materials such as wood or aluminium, which allows for better protection against heat loss in cooler climates. Technically advanced PVC windows can offer high A+14 energy efficiency ratings, meaning heat remains inside the property, therefore reducing energy bills and the carbon footprint of the homeowner.
When it comes to soundproofing, PVC materials have better noise reduction capabilities than other materials – making them perfect for those living in noisy neighbourhoods. This is particularly important if the property is on a main road and is subject to persistent traffic noise.
PVC windows have the benefit of being available in two different glazing options – double glazing, which contributes even further to improved thermal performance by trapping air between two panes of glass, and triple-glazing, which offers an additional pane of glass (and therefore two air pockets for ultra-insulation!)
In terms of safety and security, PVC windows and doors are available with multiple lock systems that make it extremely difficult for intruders to enter the home. Furthermore, thanks to the strength and rigidity of the frames, they serve as an additional barrier against break-ins and provide extra peace of mind to homeowners.
Locks for PVC windows are available in a variety of types and colours, including white, black, chrome, gold and silver. There are also a range of hinge options: a standard hinge, and a series of fire escape (egress) hinges, which provide an increased clear opening area to escape through in the event of an emergency.
Ventilation is also a key benefit of PVC windows and doors, and allows additional airflow into the property without the need to open the window or door.
What about the aesthetics of PVC windows and doors?
PVC windows and doors are available in a variety of colours meaning homeowners can achieve the desired look for their home’s external appearance while still ensuring that they will benefit from all of the practical advantages of using PVC. With PVC, frames don’t require painting, staining, or sealing like timber does, nor will they fade in the same way as wood. There has been an increase in popularity for grey frames over recent years, and whichever colour homeowners choose, PVC windows and doors boast a sleek modern appearance that greatly enhances the aesthetics of any living space, whilst also giving the home extra curb appeal.
One of the biggest aesthetical benefits of PVC windows and doors is the range of styles they are available in. PVC offers a wealth of choice and can ensure the period and style of the house is complemented. Styles include tilt & turn, vertical sliding windows, sliding sash, flush sash, and casement windows. This range demonstrates their true versatility too.
Does UPVC really last longer than other window and door materials?
Yes, they really do!
PVC is strong and durable, and easy to install. Not only this, UPVC frames are renowned for being low maintenance and easy to clean, requiring minimal effort from the homeowner. Because PVC is a durable and robust material, it can withstand most outdoor elements. PVC glazing systems can be maintained simply and easily with a cloth or soft brush and warm water, alongside some mild detergent for stubborn marks and stains.
Regular cleaning of the windows and doors and checking them for any damage is also advisable; and spotting any issues and addressing them immediately with the appropriate repairs will help prolong their lifespan. Signs that UPVC windows need replacing usually include the windows becoming draughtier, excessive condensation gathering on the inside of the window, and any visible damage to the glass panes.
However, it’s important to note that well maintained UPVC windows and doors can last around 20 years and beyond, which far exceeds that of the timber or aluminium alternatives.
Choosing good quality PVC windows and doors
Choosing good glazing systems from a reputable supplier and ensuring they are fitted by a qualified tradesperson will of course mean windows and doors last for as long as possible.
Edge Building Products are leaders in building and glazing products and offer the broadest range of PVCu windows and doors on the market. Not only do we deliver our glazing systems directly to your site, but we are also available to answer any questions you or your clients may have.

Double glazing versus Triple glazing windows and doors – The Facts.
When considering replacing old single-paned windows and doors with new double or triple glazed units, homeowners often face a dilemma about which glazing type to choose. Along with frame type, gas fills and spacers, energy use and warranties, there is a lot to consider.
How should you guide your clients to choose the right glazing system, and how do the benefits of each one stack up?
In this blog, we will specifically look at the facts around both double and triple-glazing, so that homeowners are able to make an informed decision on the glazing system that is right for them.
Single glazing
Although single-glazed windows may still be found in old properties and those in need of renovation, single glazing is no longer permitted under new-build construction laws. The act, brought in during 2002 states that new windows must conform to standard energy efficiency ratings. Windows and doors are given a ‘U-factor’, also called a ‘U-value’, which is ‘the rate at which a window, door or skylight transmits non-solar heat flow’.*
Single glazing scores extremely poorly in this area. The lower the U-factor rating, the more energy-efficient the glazing system is.
How is double or triple glazing more energy efficient?
Double-glazed and tripe-glazed windows have lower U-factor ratings due to the two or three panes of glass that are separated by an air gap or gas called ‘argon’. This gap, which is roughly 16mm in thickness, is completely sealed and helps to considerably reduce heat loss in a room, whilst also increasing sound insulation and therefore blocking out external noise.
Energy efficient glazing also reduces the build-up of condensation which can have long-term effects on the home and health of its occupants. With both double and triple-glazed windows, condensation is reduced as it cannot form between the panes of glass due to a component called ‘desiccant’ being used, which absorbs excess moisture.
Glazing systems are manufactured in different sizes, styles, materials and with various types of frames. Types of double-glazed and tripe-glazed windows include tilt & turn, which are often chosen for upper floor windows due to their security benefits, vertical sliding windows, sliding sash, flush sash and casement windows.
There is also the material of the frame for the homeowner to consider. uPVC is a popular choice due to its easy maintenance and the variety of colours available, but other options include hardwood and softwood, aluminium, and composite.
What are the major differences between double and triple glazing?
Unsurprisingly the major difference between double and triple-glazed windows is that the latter contains three individual panes of glass instead of two. Naturally, because there are 3 panes of glass and 2 ‘pockets’ of air between them, rather than 1, triple glazing offers additional heat insulation benefits over double-glazing and allows more efficient trapping of heat inside the property.
This results in reduced energy costs in addition to improved comfort, as temperatures will remain consistent across all rooms regardless of external weather conditions. This is an important consideration for homeowners with the current energy cost crisis.
Given the extra layer of insulation provided by triple glazing, there will be greater noise reduction compared to double glazing due to sound waves being trapped within the three panes instead of two.
Whilst both double and triple-glazed windows have considerably greater insulation benefits than single glazing, it does also mean that the heat of the sun is kept out, and therefore a house will not see the benefit of the natural warmth of the sun. In a country like the UK, which doesn’t typically see extremely hot weather conditions, this is less of an issue.
It’s also important to note that triple-glazed windows add an increase in security. Naturally, the extra pane of glass increases strength and will be much tougher to break through.
Triple-glazed windows do tend to be more costly than their double-glazed counterparts due to increased material costs, and so it’s important to weigh up the cost saving benefits of added insulation versus the financial outlay of the windows.
This increase in material means that environmental impact is also a consideration for both double and triple-glazed windows. Whilst undoubtedly, triple-glazing will be more energy efficient and reduce the homeowners carbon footprint, it will use more material in the manufacturing process, and it therefore comes with its own environmental cost.
In summary, it’s important for homeowners to carefully consider all these elements when choosing between double and triple-glazing. The decision will depend largely on individual preferences and circumstances, given that both offer distinct advantages.

Common questions about uPVC Windows and Doors
We supply a vast range of uPVC Windows and Doors at Edge, and we get a lot of questions about their thermal efficiency, appearance, and many other factors.
We’ve taken the most frequently asked questions to make sure you have the answers you need!
Should I install UPVC Windows and Doors?
uPVC windows can literally be installed in any type of building. They are incredibly easy to keep clean and are also a very cost–effective, energy-saving solution. So, yes – you should install them!
What is double-glazed glass?
Double glazing is basically two panes of glass sealed together, with a gas-filled cavity between them. Standard units are about 28mm thick, with the actual glass panes at 4mm thick.
Are double-glazed windows good for the environment?
Yes, double-glazed windows are good at preventing heat loss, which both energy-saving and cost-effective! Double-glazed windows are said to be able to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 680kg per year!
How long does it take to install double-glazed windows?
Installing uPVC double-glazed windows doesn’t take long if you know what you’re doing. We recommend getting a professional window fitter in if you don’t have the experience yourself. Take a look at our PVC installation guide for more details.
Are double-glazed windows vacuum sealed?
No, the cavity between the two window panes is filled with a noble gas, mostly Argon. This prevents the heat from indoors escaping so rapidly, improving thermal efficiency.
What is double-glazing beading?
Beading is the part of the window frame which holds the glass. It’s usually a strip which snaps into the window frame over the glass.
What is the U value of a double-glazed unit?
U values differ depending on the specification of the unit. However, a standard 28mm double-glazed unit is around 1.2w/m²K.
What are the advantages of uPVC windows and doors?
- Low maintenance – easily cleaned or touched up.
- Safe and secure – high-quality locking systems are available to protect your property.
- Soundproof – cancelling out external noise and providing acoustic insulation.
- Weatherproof – protecting property interiors from rain, hail, and other severe weather.
- Great value for money – PVC is cheaper than aluminium or wooden windows.
- Versatile – almost limitless opportunities in styling and performance, suited to any property!
What are the common patterns and types of uPVC windows?
Some of the trends in uPVC windows over the last few years are:
- Grey and black shades
- Matt or woodgrain finishes (for modern or traditional properties).
- Flush casement sashes, these are very popular due to their seamless, classic design – they look perfect in almost every style, whether traditional or modern.
- Sliding sash windows are also very popular in more traditional style projects, these are also great for air flow in rooms.
Why are my double-glazed windows covered in condensation?
If your glass units are misty or have condensation within the panes, this means the seal has broken and the unit is ‘blown’.
Can blown double-glazed glass units be repaired?
We recommend that you replace any blown units (glass units that have mist or condensation inside the pane) as this means the unit seal is broken – there is no effective way to fix this issue.
Are uPVC windows and doors easy to break into?
PVC doors are fitted with high-quality locking mechanisms, as standard – making them a secure option to install in your home. Take a look at our specification guide for more details on the locking systems.
What makes uPVC doors so popular?
One of the reasons why uPVC doors are so popular is because they are very low maintenance. There are a lot of styles you can achieve with uPVC windows too, which is another reason why they are often preferred – Sash windows, French casements, flush sash and standard casements are just some of the styles that look perfect in PVC profile.
Plastic windows provide durable weatherproof protection that can be relied upon for many years after installation and are cheaper than timber or aluminium windows too.
