Using Fibre Cement Weatherboard for Your Project
When picking external cladding, the decision often comes down to more than just appearance. Fire performance, durability, installation method, and long-term maintenance all play a significant role in how a façade performs over time.
Fibre cement weatherboards have become a go-to solution for builders, developers, and architects looking to achieve a timber-style finish without the ongoing maintenance. However, not all systems are positioned in the same way.
This guide explores what to look for when selecting a fibre cement weatherboard, while highlighting how a modern system like Supertech™ Weatherboard is designed to meet the demands of today’s construction projects.
What Is a Fibre Cement Weatherboard?
A fibre cement weatherboard is a type of external cladding made from a mix of cement, sand, and cellulose fibres. It is designed to replicate the look of timber while offering improved durability, fire performance, and reduced maintenance.
It is commonly used across residential and commercial projects where long-term performance and a consistent finish are required.
Positioning and Typical Applications
Fibre cement weatherboards are widely used across residential and commercial construction, but their positioning can vary depending on how they are designed and specified.
Supertech™ Weatherboard is designed as a ventilated rainscreen cladding system. It is suitable for new build façades, over-cladding, and feature detailing, and works across timber frame, steel frame, masonry, and modular construction.
Many fibre cement weatherboards on the market are positioned as straightforward timber alternatives, typically used on residential and light commercial projects where ease of installation and a clean, traditional finish are the priority.
Key Takeaway:
• Fibre cement weatherboards vary from simple timber alternatives to fully specified façade systems.
• Supertech™ is designed as a system-led solution, supporting a wide range of modern construction methods.
Fire Performance and Compliance
Fire classification is often a critical specification factor, particularly on multi-storey or higher-risk buildings.
Supertech™ Weatherboard achieves an A1 non-combustible classification to BS EN 13501-1, placing it in the highest possible fire performance category.
Many alternative fibre cement weatherboards are classified A2-s1,d0, which still offers strong performance and suitability across a wide range of applications.
What this means in practice:
• A1 classification provides maximum reassurance where fire performance is a primary concern.
• It supports more demanding specifications and can simplify decision-making on projects where compliance is critical.
Durability and Long-Term Performance
Fibre cement weatherboards are designed to outperform timber in terms of both lifespan and resistance to environmental factors, but the level of performance can vary.
• Resistant to rot, fungus, and insects.
• Designed for long-term weather resistance.
• Supported by a minimum life expectancy of 30 years.
Across the wider market, fibre cement boards are typically promoted as low-maintenance and durable, with compliance to standards such as BS EN 12467. Some systems also offer warranty-backed performance and enhanced resistance to moisture movement.
Key Takeaway:
All fibre cement weatherboards provide a durable alternative to timber, but Supertech stands out with a clearly defined 30-year minimum life expectancy alongside strong resistance to weathering, impact, and biological attack, making it a reliable long-term solution.
Appearance, Texture, and Design Flexibility
Visual finish is often a deciding factor, particularly on residential and architect-led projects.
Supertech™ Weatherboard offers:
• A timber-style appearance.
• Painted and stained finishes.
• Colour matching to RAL, BS, or NCS.
Across the market, fibre cement weatherboards are typically available in woodgrain or smooth finishes, with varying colour ranges depending on the manufacturer. Some systems offer broader standard colour palettes, while others focus on a smaller, more streamlined selection.
Key Takeaway:
Supertech combines a strong standard colour offering with the added flexibility of colour matching, making it suitable for both standard specifications and more design-led projects.
Board Size, Coverage, and Efficiency
Board dimensions directly impact installation speed and coverage per square metre, which in turn affects overall project cost.
Supertech™ Weatherboard features:
• 3660 x 190mm standard board size.
• Larger board options available.
• Coverage up to 0.73m² per board depending on overlap.
Across the wider market, board widths and coverage can vary, with some systems offering wider boards to reduce the number required per square metre, while others use narrower profiles that increase board count.
Key Takeaway:
Supertech delivers strong coverage with the added advantage of larger board options, helping reduce installation time and overall project cost. When combined with its performance characteristics, this supports excellent value for money across the full project.
Installation Approach and Flexibility
Ease of installation can influence both labour time and overall project cost, and one of the key advantages of fibre cement weatherboards is the familiarity of installation methods.
Most systems:
• Can be installed using standard tools and fixing methods.
• Are suitable for timber and metal subframe applications.
• Follow widely recognised weatherboard installation principles.
This means installers can work confidently without needing specialist training or equipment.
Where Supertech™ Weatherboard adds further value:
• Horizontal and vertical installation options.
• Secret-fix system with no pre-drilling required under standard conditions.
• Engineered with a less dense fibre structure, improving durability and reducing the risk of breakage during handling.
This reduced breakage can help minimise wastage on site, supporting both efficiency and cost control.
Key Takeaway:
Fibre cement weatherboards are generally straightforward to install, but Supertech offers added resilience during handling, helping reduce breakages and improve on-site efficiency.
Rainscreen Systems and Ventilation
Proper ventilation is essential for long-term façade performance.
Supertech™ Weatherboard is explicitly designed as a ventilated rainscreen system, with a full build-up including membrane, cavity, and support frame options.
Many fibre cement cladding systems support ventilated installations and can be used alongside insulation and membrane layers to improve thermal performance.
Key Takeaway:
While ventilated installation is common across fibre cement systems, Supertech is specifically designed as a complete rainscreen solution, supporting more robust and controlled façade performance.
Maintenance and Ongoing Upkeep
Fibre cement weatherboards are widely chosen for their low maintenance requirements compared to timber cladding.
• Easy to clean using warm water and a mild detergent.
• Simple to maintain with no need for harsh chemicals or specialist treatments.
Across the market, fibre cement boards are typically positioned as low maintenance, removing the need for repainting and reducing long-term upkeep compared to timber.
Key Takeaway:
All fibre cement weatherboards are low maintenance, but Supertech stands out for its simplicity, requiring only occasional cleaning with warm soapy water, making it a practical choice for long-term upkeep.
Why Supertech™ Weatherboard Is Built for Modern Construction

Why Roofing Material Costs Matter More Than Ever
Margins are under constant pressure in the construction industry. Whether you are pricing a small canopy, or a larger roofing job – material costs can quickly eat into profitability if they are not carefully managed.
Polycarbonate roof sheets are a go-to solution for many applications because of their durability, versatility, and ease of installation. However, pricing has not always been as competitive as it could be, particularly when compared to national suppliers.
This is something we have addressed.
Edge Building Products has reduced everyday prices across our polycarbonate roof sheet range, delivering average savings of 27 percent! This is part of a wider commitment to offer better value across key product categories, but without compromising on the service and reliability local trades depend on.
What Are Polycarbonate Roof Sheets, and Where Are They Used?
Polycarbonate roof sheets are manufactured from a high-performance thermoplastic polymer, designed to provide a strong, lightweight alternative to traditional glazing and roofing materials.
They are widely used across both residential and commercial projects due to their flexibility and performance.
Common applications include:
-
- Lean-to roofs and verandas
- Carports and canopies
- Pergolas and garden structures
- Commercial walkways and covered areas
- Greenhouses and horticultural buildings
Their ability to balance strength with light transmission makes them particularly useful where natural light is required without compromising on durability.
Key Benefits of Polycarbonate Roof Sheets on Site
When specifying roofing materials, performance and practicality matter just as much as cost. Polycarbonate sheets continue to be a popular choice because they deliver on both.
High Impact Resistance
Polycarbonate is significantly stronger than traditional glazing materials such as glass or acrylic. It can withstand heavy impacts, making it ideal for exposed environments or areas prone to debris and weather extremes.
Lightweight and Easy to Handle
Compared to alternatives, polycarbonate sheets are much lighter. This reduces handling time on site and makes installation more straightforward, especially on smaller jobs or where access is limited.
Strong Light Transmission
Clear and tinted options allow natural light to pass through while still providing protection from the elements. This makes them suitable for spaces where brightness is important without sacrificing coverage.
Versatility in Design
Available in different thicknesses, sizes, colours, and connection profiles, polycarbonate sheets can be adapted to suit a wide range of structures.
For example:
-
- Solid Polycarb Sheet Clear offers a clean, glass-like finish with excellent clarity.
- Polycarbonate H Section Clear provides a practical joining solution for multi-sheet installations.
Low Maintenance
Polycarbonate does not require regular treatment or sealing. Once installed correctly, it offers long-term performance with minimal upkeep.
A More Competitive Price Point for Everyday Jobs
Historically, our pricing in this category has not always matched the nationals. That is a fair reflection of where things were.
As a local, family-run business, our focus has always been on service, reliability, and product knowledge. That is still at the core of what we do.
However, we also recognise that price plays a critical role in winning work and maintaining margins.
That is why we have taken a proactive approach to reviewing and reducing prices across our polycarbonate roof sheet range.
The result:
-
- Average savings of 27 percent across the range.
- More competitive pricing against national suppliers.
- Better value without compromising on availability or service.
This is not a short-term promotion. These are everyday price reductions designed to support trades on an ongoing basis.
Part of a Wider Pricing Review Across Key Categories
This move is not happening in isolation.
Earlier this year, we implemented significant price reductions across soil pipes and underground drainage. Polycarbonate roof sheets are the next step in a broader strategy to make key product categories more competitive and accessible.
Why Buy Polycarbonate Sheets from a Local Supplier?
Price is important, but it is not the only factor that affects how smoothly a job runs.
Working with a local, specialist supplier offers practical advantages that national merchants often struggle to match.

Low Maintenance Building Products for Long-Term Cost Savings
In today’s construction environment, long-term cost control is just as important as upfront spend. For builders, window installers, and developers, rising labour costs, material waste, and ongoing maintenance are all impacting project profitability.
That’s why low maintenance building products are increasingly being specified to support commercial construction savings and long-term asset performance.
At Edge Building Products, we supply a wide range of durable materials to trade customers across the South East, with next-day delivery available on in-stock items.
Why Low Maintenance Building Products Matters Across Trade Projects
Whether you’re working on commercial developments, residential builds, or refurbishment projects, maintenance represents an ongoing cost. Products that require regular repainting, sealing, or replacement can quickly erode margins and increase disruption.
Low maintenance building products help to:
- Reduce ongoing repair and replacement work
- Cut long-term labour costs
- Minimise disruption to occupied buildings
- Improve whole-life cost efficiency
For developers, this protects long-term asset value. For builders and installers, it reduces callbacks and remedial work.
Durable Materials Reduce Long-Term Costs
One of the key drivers of commercial construction savings is durability. Materials that perform consistently over time help avoid premature failure and repeated intervention.
Durable materials typically offer:
- Resistance to weathering and UV exposure
- Stable finishes that don’t require repainting
- Long service life in demanding UK conditions
This is particularly important for external applications such as cladding, roofline systems, decking, and rainwater drainage, where exposure to the elements is unavoidable.
Sustainable Performance from PVC Roofline Products
PVC roofline products such as fascias & soffits offer a practical approach to sustainability by reducing the need for ongoing maintenance and replacement. Unlike traditional timber alternatives, PVC roofline systems do not require regular painting, sealing, or treatment, helping to lower long-term material and labour demands.
Designed to withstand prolonged exposure to the UK climate, PVC roofline products resist rot, moisture ingress, and insect damage, maintaining their appearance and performance over time. This extended service life reduces replacement cycles and supports more efficient use of materials across a building’s lifespan.
By minimising maintenance requirements and avoiding additional coatings or treatments, PVC roofline systems contribute to long-term cost savings while supporting more sustainable construction practices.
Practical Savings Through Smarter Product Design
Low maintenance isn’t just about the materials themselves — it’s also about how products are supplied, installed, and perform over time.
Reducing material waste is an increasingly important consideration for both cost control and sustainability. Aluminium trims support this by offering long service life and full recyclability at the end of their lifecycle, helping to lower overall material impact across a project.
Supplying PVC window trims & aluminium window trims in full 5-metre lengths also helps installers reduce unnecessary cutting, joins, and offcuts on site. Fewer cuts mean less waste, quicker installation, and a cleaner, more consistent finish — contributing to long-term cost savings across both labour and materials.
Designed to resist weathering and maintain performance over time, aluminium trims provide a durable, low-maintenance solution well suited to modern construction projects. At Edge Building Products, we supply aluminium and PVC trims in full 5m lengths to support more efficient, cost-effective installation.
Low Maintenance Building Products Across Key Applications
Modern low maintenance building products are now widely used across mixed trade projects throughout the South East and beyond, including:
- External cladding that retain their appearance with minimal upkeep
- Composite decking designed to resist rot, warping, and fading
- PVC fascias and soffits that do not require painting
- Rainwater and roofline drainage systems engineered for long-term reliability
- Interior wall panels, including shower and wood-effect panels, offering durability and easy cleaning
These products are particularly well suited to developments where ongoing maintenance budgets are a key consideration.
Reduced Waste, Reduced Labour, Better Value
Material waste and labour time both have a direct impact on project costs. Low maintenance, well-designed products help reduce both.
Benefits include:
- Fewer maintenance visits
- Reduced replacement cycles
- Less installation waste
- More predictable long-term costs
For developers and facilities teams, this supports better lifecycle planning. For builders and installers, it improves efficiency and profitability.
Long-Term Value Over Short-Term Savings
While low maintenance materials may sometimes cost more upfront, they consistently deliver better value over time. In commercial and multi-unit projects, the reduction in maintenance, labour, and waste often outweighs the initial difference in cost.
Choosing low maintenance building products allows trade customers to:
- Protect long-term asset value
- Improve sustainability credentials
- Deliver buildings that perform reliably for years to come
Supporting Trade Projects Across the South East and UK
At Edge Building Products, we support builders, window installers, and developers across the South East with next-day delivery on a wide range of low maintenance building products. For projects outside the region, we offer reliable UK-wide delivery via external carriers.
Our focus is on supplying durable materials that perform in real-world conditions and help reduce long-term costs.
If you’d like advice on products that can support commercial construction savings on your next project, our team is here to help.
Why Fascias, Soffits, and Guttering Are Key to Roofline Longevity
For builders and trades, the roofline works as a complete system rather than a finishing detail. When fascias and soffits are correctly specified and paired with reliable guttering solutions, they help protect the structure and support long-term roofline longevity.
At Edge Building Products, we supply roofline components that perform on site and continue to deliver over time. As a result, builders can reduce maintenance issues and avoid unnecessary call-backs.
The Role of Fascias and Soffits in Roofline Performance
Fascias and soffits protect the roof edge, support guttering, and help control airflow within the roof space. Without proper materials or installation, water can enter the structure and cause damage to roof timbers.
For this reason, well-specified fascias and soffits help builders to:
- Provide secure fixing points for guttering systems
- Protect rafters and roof edges from moisture
- Support ventilation and reduce condensation risk
- Deliver a clean, professional roofline finish
Using durable materials from the outset reduces ongoing roofline maintenance and helps avoid call-backs. You can read more about the fascias and soffits here.
Colours and Finishes That Work for Trade Projects
While performance always comes first, fascias and soffits must also maintain their appearance. Modern PVC roofline products combine durability with a consistent finish and low maintenance.
PVC fascias and soffits resist UV exposure, weathering, rot, and pests. Because of this, they remain suitable for long-term roofline performance. In addition, smooth and woodgrain finishes are available, with foiled and sprayed options designed to retain their colour.
For many trade projects, neutral tones such as white and darker finishes like black ash remain popular. Meanwhile, anthracite grey continues to grow in demand on modern builds and extensions. Where specific finishes are required, Edge Building Products can support additional colour options.
Why Roofline Maintenance Starts at Installation
Many roofline issues can be traced back to poor product selection or installation rather than age. Incompatible components, weak fixings, or low-grade materials often lead to early failure.
By treating fascias, soffits, and guttering as a complete system, builders can reduce common problems such as sagging gutters, water staining, and overflow. A system-led approach improves long-term performance and simplifies roofline maintenance.
Guttering Solutions That Protect the Building
Gutters are a crucial part of any roofing system. They are designed to collect and channel rainwater away from the building structure, helping to protect walls, foundations, and external finishes
When correctly specified and securely fixed to the roof fascia, guttering plays a key role in long-term roofline performance and protection from water damage.
Modern guttering systems are typically manufactured from uPVC, aluminium, or steel and are available in a range of profiles to suit different building styles. Traditional round profiles remain widely used, while square and ogee profiles are increasingly specified on contemporary projects.
To suit different properties and design requirements, Edge Building Products supplies industrial and domestic PVC guttering in a selection of practical colours, including brown, anthracite grey, white, and black as well as cast iron style in black. This allows builders to match guttering with fascias, soffits, and external finishes, creating a consistent roofline appearance without compromising performance.
In addition to gutters, downpipes play a vital role in directing water safely to ground level. Correct sizing and positioning of downpipes ensures rainwater is discharged efficiently and helps prevent damage to the building and surrounding areas.
For larger projects, a complete rainwater and drainage strategy may also include underground drainage systems. These systems transport rainwater away from the building through underground pipework, helping to protect foundations and manage surface water effectively.
Edge Building Products supplies guttering and drainage solutions suitable for domestic, commercial, and industrial applications, supporting reliable roofline drainage across a wide range of projects.
One Complete Roofline System
Fascias, soffits, guttering, and drainage components should not be specified in isolation. When roofline products are designed to work together, installation is more straightforward and long-term performance is improved.
This approach is particularly important for builders working on multi-plot developments or repeat projects, where consistency, availability, and reliability are key.

Why Aluminium Trims Are Essential for a Professional Window Finish
When installing windows, the trim is often the first detail customers notice. Clean, straight lines show professional workmanship – and aluminium window trims. are the fastest way to achieve that finish.
At Edge Building Products, we stock 5-metre aluminium trims in the trade’s most popular finishes and sizes, delivered by our own vans so there’s no cutting for transport. For cost-sensitive projects, we also supply PVC trims.
The premium finish clients pay for
Aluminium trims deliver the sharp, architectural look that pairs perfectly with aluminium, uPVC and composite frames. Tight tolerances and crisp corners make elevations look straighter, cleaner and more deliberate – the kind of finish that helps you win repeat business.
In stock powder-coated finishes:
- Matt Black (RAL 9005)
- Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016)
- Gloss White (RAL 9910)
- Agate Grey (RAL7038)
Need something else? Our trim spraying service matches any RAL or BS colour – ideal when you’re aligning to specific profiles or design schemes. With our trim spraying service, we can perfectly match your aluminium trim to any window or door unit. Got a set of blue windows or an green bi-fold? Don’t stress, we can match the RAL or BS colour in our regular 5m lengths. Plus, we maintain high stocks of matt black, agate grey, anthracite grey, and gloss white aluminium window trims to match the most popular glazing units, such as Origin and Korniche.
Built for site conditions
- Weather & corrosion resistance: Aluminium forms a protective oxide layer, so it resists corrosion and UV ageing in exposed locations.
- Long-term stability: Unlike timber, it won’t split, swell or warp.
- Lightweight & workable: Our 2.0mm and 3.5mm trims in 25, 31 and 50mm widths are easy to handle and fix. Aluminium’s natural malleability also lets you gently curve trims for bays and features.
- Faster fixing: A ridged underside improves grip to the substrate – especially helpful on vertical reveals and door surrounds
5-metre lengths = fewer joints, faster installs
Every trim comes in a full 5m length, so you reduce joins, cut time on site and improve the visual line. Because we deliver on Edge vans, you don’t have to trim down for transport – less waste, less handling.
Sustainability built in
Aluminium is 100% recyclable and retains its properties after reprocessing. Specifying aluminium trims supports circularity while delivering excellent service life – and the lightweight profile helps lower transport emissions compared with heavier alternatives.
PVC Anthracite Grey: the value option that still looks great
PVC trims remain a brilliant everyday solution where budget is a key factor. Our Anthracite Grey PVC trims are the nearest RAL match to aluminium 7016, so from a typical viewing distance, the difference is barely noticeable.
They’re lightweight, easy to handle, and ideal for standard domestic refurbs or volume housing projects. For clients who want to keep costs under control while maintaining a clean, consistent finish, Anthracite Grey PVC is a reliable, professional-looking choice.
And when a client wants that extra touch of quality or a seamless match to aluminium windows and doors, upgrading to aluminium trims gives them that premium finish – and gives you the upsell opportunity.

Congratulations to our September 2025 Installation of the Month winner, Miall and Barnes!
We’re excited to share that our September Installation of the Month goes to Miall & Barnes!
We’ve been working with the team on a number of projects recently, and it’s always great to see the standard of work they deliver with our products. They’re a fantastic client and partner of ours, and their latest installations really stood out.
About Miall and Barnes
Based in Surrey, Miall & Barnes are trusted local builders, providing everything from property maintenance to full home renovations. They’re known for their professional approach, competitive pricing, and commitment to quality – always making sure projects are finished to a high standard and with customer satisfaction at the heart of what they do.
Project 1: Residential Cladding Replacement
This property needed a complete external wall upgrade after suffering from water damage inside.

The Miall & Barnes team carried out a full transformation by stripping back all the existing cladding before insulating the wall cavities, adding battens and SuperQuilt insulation. A breathable membrane was then installed to ensure long-term protection, and the project was finished with new white shiplap cladding. To complete the upgrade, all gutters and downpipes were replaced.
Products supplied by Edge:
- 150mm x 5m Shiplap Exterior Cladding – White
- 70 x 6mm x 5m Architrave White
- 2 Part Cladding Top Trim – 5m White
- Round 68mm PVC Downpipe Connector – White
The Result
The result is a highly thermally efficient external wall that not only boosts the property’s performance but also gives it a clean, refreshed look.
We’re proud to have supported them with White Shiplap Cladding for this project. It’s always rewarding to see our products used in such professional, high-quality work.
Project Two: Church Roofline Refurbishment
Alongside the featured residential installation, Miall & Barnes also completed a roofline refurbishment for a local church. The old guttering had become tired and ineffective, so the team removed the existing fittings and installed a new 175mm white cover board fascia, paired with black deep flow guttering. The result is a practical, low-maintenance solution that not only protects the building but also complements the character of the church. The result is a practical, low-maintenance solution that not only protects the building but also complements the character of the church.

These two projects are a fantastic showcase of the team’s craftsmanship, attention to detail, and commitment to quality. We’re proud to partner with Miall & Barnes and support their work with products they can trust to deliver lasting results.

Wet and windy weather calls for reliable and hard-wearing guttering. When gutters fail, from cracks or sagging, overflowing water can lead to mould and damp in the roofline, or even damage the building’s foundations. That’s why its so important to talk to your clients about their guttering options, whether you’re completing a full renovation or carrying out seasonal property maintenance.
At Edge Building Products, we specialise in supplying high quality, low maintenance PVC guttering across the South East. But did you know that we also offer an extensive range of metal guttering systems? In this post, we’ll take a closer look at our metal guttering options and their key benefits.
Metal Drainage and Rainwater Solutions from Edge:

Steel Guttering
Steel guttering is an attractive and highly reliable solution to drainage. Crafted from an extremely durable alloy, steel guttering can hold more water than PVC guttering without sagging or cracking. What’s more, the galvanised steel resists thermal expansion and contraction, improving it’s longevity as the seasons change. Featuring a shiny texture, this guttering looks great on any building while still blending into the roofline.
Here at Edge, we can supply steel guttering in 125mm and 150mm widths, and in three popular colours: galvanised steel finish, black, and anthracite grey (only available in 125mm).
Aluminium Guttering
Extruded aluminium guttering is manufactured by heating the aluminium until it’s soft and then forcing it through a cross-sectioned die to form the required shape. The result is exceptionally rust-proof guttering that is durable and long lasting. Aluminium guttering is highly resistant to adverse weather conditions, making it a great choice when considering winter storms and spring showers. This drainage system is also highly resistant to thermal expansion, protecting it from cracks during summer heatwaves.
Aluminium guttering elevates the appearance of the roofline while still blending in seamlessly. At Edge, we can supply 3m lengths of extruded aluminium guttering according to your specifications. This drainage system is available as standard in a textured ‘Heritage Black’, and a smooth RAL 9005 Matt Black and RAL 7016 Matt Anthracite Grey finish. What’s more, as this guttering is supplied to order, you can request the aluminium guttering in any other RAL colour. Just specify your requirements when speaking to a member of the Edge team or fill out the quote form here.
Cast Iron Guttering
A cornerstone of heritage design, cast iron guttering is often a popular choice for older properties, or those with heritage features. Offering a traditional aesthetic, cast iron guttering is often one of the heavier options for metal guttering. For this reason, it is typically supplied in shorter lengths with additional wall brackets. One benefit of this is that individual sections of guttering can be removed and replaced if required, without needing to dismantle the entire roofline. Cast iron guttering can be recycled at waste recycling centers, making it an environmentally conscious choice as well. However, with proper maintenance, cast iron guttering can last decades without issue.
At Edge we supply cast iron guttering in 1.33m lengths according to your specifications. As standard, the cast iron guttering is available in black or a primed finish. However, as the drainage system is supplied to order, you can request other RAL colours to fulfill your clients’ wishes for their home. Click here to view the quote form.
Final Thoughts…
When it comes to guttering, metal systems offer a combination of durability, weather resistance, and style. This makes them a great alternative to traditional PVC guttering. Whether your clients are looking for a modern and sophisticated finish or a heritage-inspired design, our team here at Edge can help you find the right solution.

As we experience so many wet and windy days here in the UK, we tend to focus primarily on prepping our homes for the colder seasons. However, there are some key household tasks that should happen in the summer, or are certainly easier to do when the sun is shining! Today we are going to look at 6 maintenance jobs you could tackle this summer. We recommend getting in touch with a local builder or contractor to help you out. These trained professionals can help homeowners with small day-to-day tasks as well as larger home renovations. Save time with a local, trusted professional and enjoy your summer in a home that has been well cared for!
1. Give Your Home a Fresh Coat of Paint.
Summer is an ideal time of year to give your home a fresh coat of paint. With the windows wide open, the paint will not only dry faster, but you can also keep the room ventilated without needing 3 jumpers! Touch up any scuffs that have appeared over the past 12 months or redecorate a room fully with a brand new colour.
Now is also a great time to give your garden fence or shed a coat of paint. Not only does this boost the look of your garden, but it also adds a protective layer to any wooden panelling. Whether you’re painting inside the house or outside, hiring a local decorator can save you time and ensure excellent results.
Get matching trims! We stock PVC window trims in 28 foiled and sprayed colours, so you can find the perfect trim to enhance not only the look of your windows and doors but also your freshly decorated home.
2. Let the Sunshine In With Clean Windows and Doors
We all put off cleaning our windows during the winter, but once that sun starts shining the build up of dust and dirt becomes obvious! Boost the natural light flooding into your home by giving your windows and window cills a good clean this summer. Some windows are difficult to reach, so we would recommend reaching out to a local window cleaning company.
Whether you’re cleaning the windows yourself, or hiring a professional to do it, this gives you a great opportunity to check the seals around any glazing units in your home. If you notice any deterioration, or that a seal has come away from the window, now is a great time to resolve these problems.
EDGEseal LMN Silicone is a professional grade sealant available in Brilliant White or Clear, perfect for correcting any sealant around your windows and doors. Why not add Edge Glass & Mirror cleaner to your order to achieve sparkling windows in a flash.

3. Create a New Look with Exterior Cladding
Have you noticed that lots of homes, especially around the coast, are installing external cladding as part of home renovation projects? Not only does cladding look fantastic, but it also improves insulation and protects your home from extreme weather conditions.
Here at Edge, we highly recommend installing PVC or Fibre Cement cladding. Not only are these panels low maintenance, but they are also robust and highly durable. Unlike wooden cladding, they do not require regular varnishing or painting, and the colour will continue to look great for years to come because of enhanced UV protection. What’s more, we supply cladding from top brands such as Fortex, Natureclad, and HardiePlank, all of which feature a realistic wood grain so you can enjoy high quality cladding without compromising on style.
Explore our range of PVC and Fibre Cement cladding here!

4. Clean Out Guttering and Tidy Up Tiles
During some dry weather, it is a good idea to clean out your gutters and check their condition. Leaving gutters full of leaves and debris puts higher pressure on the drainage system and can lead to leaks or cracks. Now is also a good time to remove any moss buildup from the roof tiles to avoid future leaks or damp through your roofline.
We would highly recommend hiring a contractor for higher or hard-to-reach roofs. Local professionals will be able to complete these jobs quickly and safely and advise any repair work that might be required. By resolving any cracked guttering or missing tiles in the summer, you can face the winter storms with peace of mind.
Found a problem with your guttering? We can supply quality PVC guttering in a range of styles and colours. Browse our guttering and drainage systems here.

5. Install New Garden Decking
There is nothing better than relaxing with a cold drink in your garden during the summer months. Elevate this experience with brand new decking! Not only will new decking boost the value of your property, it can also create new spaces in your garden to enjoy. Pop a BBQ on the decking, dining set, or create a safe place for your children to play.
At Edge, we recommend choosing composite decking for your garden. These decking boards still feature the classic look and feel of woodgrain but are significantly lower maintenance than timber boards. Protected from rot, UV damage, and often crafted to be splinter-free, these decks are quick to install and only require a wash with soapy water to stay looking their best. We would also recommend getting any groundwork and installation completed by a trusted professional in your area.
Our customers love the Triton WPC Double Faced Decking! A versatile, low maintenance, and highly durable range of decking perfect for any garden.

6. Plan and Start Your Home Extension
Have you been dreaming of a new kitchen, or extended lounge space? Summer is a great time to embark on any large-scale home renovation projects. No one wants to be knocking down walls in the depths of winter! Plus, builders and contractors often have better availability during the summer and weather delays are minimal.
Here at Edge, we work with local builders to supply a broad range of building supplies for all sorts of home renovation projects. From a new roofline, to cladding and decking, to new aluminium bi-folds, our team is on hand to provide advice and support your contractor to keep the project on schedule.
Book a visit to our Windows & Doors showroom to discuss new aluminium or PVC windows and doors, as well as rooflights, by emailing [email protected]. Our friendly and experienced team will support both you and your contractor to ensure the new glazing units fit perfectly and to your exact specifications.

Final Thoughts

Congratulations to our July 2025 Installation of the Month winner, JM Glass & Glazing Ltd!
We’re always inspired by the talented installers who bring Edge products to life, and July’s Installation of the Month is no exception. This month, we’re proud to highlight the incredible work of JM Glass & Glazing Ltd on a complex and beautifully executed roof light refurbishment project using our aluminium Capped glazing system.
About JM Glass & Glazing Ltd
Based in Croydon and serving Surrey, Kent, Sussex, and parts of London, JM Glass & Glazing Ltd brings over 30 years of glazing expertise to every project. With a team of fully qualified and safety-tested professionals, they offer a reliable and tailored glazing service backed by deep industry knowledge and a commitment to quality. We are proud to be one of their trusted building suppliers.
Project Overview
Approached by a roofing company to carry out a like-for-like replacement, JM Glass & Glazing took on the challenge of removing the aged, broken-down roof light system -including failed glass units and perished aluminium glazing bars, while retaining the existing supporting structure.

Working closely with Trent from our Sales team, JM Glass & Glazing supplied and installed 44 shaped double-glazed units, all expertly glazed into new white Aluminium Capped Bars from Edge Building Products.
This project made full use of our Aluminium Capped Glazing Bar System, a sleek and durable solution designed for timber-supported structures. These bars accommodate almost any glazing thickness by simply adjusting screw length, making them ideal for a wide range of roof glazing applications. For this installation, the team used the 50mm Aluminium Capped Glazing Bar in White, offering reliable structural performance and a clean, modern finish.

To complete the installation, JM Glass & Glazing Ltd also used a range of complementary components – all supplied by Edge Building Products – to ensure a weatherproof and professional finish. These included:
- Capex 50 Endcaps in White PVC
- Capex 50 Crest Bridging and Hip Bridging Bars (Black)
- Aluminium Capped Ridge System
- Alu Ridge MK 4 Radius End Cap in White
- PVC Finials (350mm High, White)
These components ensured a clean, weatherproof finish and full compatibility with our Cappex Aluminium Bar system.
The Result

The result is a clean, bright, and long-lasting roof light system, restored to a premium standard. The shaped glass units required careful handling and precise fitting and the finished installation is a testament to JM Glass & Glazing’s skill and attention to detail.
Customer Feedback: “Trent was very helpful with regards to quoting and supplying accurately the materials we needed with minimal wastage.”
We’re proud to have supported them with Aluminium Cappex bars for this project. It’s always rewarding to see our products used in such professional, high-quality work.
Congratulations again to JM Glass & Glazing Ltd on this outstanding achievement- we look forward to seeing what you do next!

Here at Edge, we specialise in all things quality PVC building supplies. Offering a light weight and cost-effective solution to most building projects, we are big fans of exploring PVC alternatives to traditional building materials. We know that lots of our customers are booked to complete kitchen and bathroom renovations, and often these jobs can involve lengthy tiling projects. So, we have sourced and can supply a fantastic range of internal cladding to save your clients time, money, and effort on these large home renovation jobs.
5 Benefits of Using Internal Cladding
1. Great Design Options
For homeowners, products need to not only be highly functional, but attractive to look at as well. That’s why we are pleased to stock and supply the Zest range of internal cladding. From shower panels to wall and ceiling panels, Zest offers a comprehensive design catalogue. Featuring an ultra-realistic finish to mimic tiles, marble, stone, wood and more, your client is sure to find a design they love. What’s more, many of our internal panels are available in a high-quality matt finish.

2. Durable and Low Maintenance Panels
Our range of internal cladding is manufactured from durable PVC for a reliable 100% waterproof product. The last thing you need is a call about mouldy shower panels! So, we have ensured that our range of hygienic wall cladding and shower panels have a robust PVC backing, rather than the plywood/MDF used by other suppliers. This ensures that if water does get behind your panels they won’t ‘blow’, developing mould or damp behind the boards. Plus, as no grout is required for installation, these boards are easy to clean and maintain with regular household products.
3. Cost-Effective Choice
Zest shower panels are available in 1m x 10mm x 2.4m boards. Therefore, the cost per square meter is often considerably less than tiles. Not only are you saving money on ancillaries and tools, but you can also save on labour costs.

4. Quick to Install
As mentioned, our lightweight PVC internal cladding is available in large boards to make installation easier for you. These boards will cover large portions of the room in a fraction of the time it takes to install and grout tiles. These boards are lightweight thanks to being PVC, so are easy to handle. What’s more, Zest shower panels can be installed over the top of existing tiles, minimising the need for extensive prep-work before starting your project. With their handy tongue and groove design, you can be sure to achieve excellent results with internal panels without delaying your project. Plus, we supply all the trims, sealants and adhesives you will require to get the job done.

5. Versatile Cladding for Every Home
Internal cladding is certainly an effective product for decorating kitchens and bathrooms thanks to it being waterproof and easy to clean. However, internal paneling can also be a cost and time effective way to decorate living spaces and bedrooms. New to our collection is Zest’s range of acoustic wall panels. These panels feature real wood veneer to create a stylish and striking feature in a room, while also working to absorb noise and improve sound quality. Available in four realistic wood finishes – Ash Grey, Washed Oak, Elegant Oiled Oak, and Contemporary Oak – these panels quickly transform any living space.
